Theft of Firearms = Probation

Post by Bruenor »

One would think the sentencing would be a bit more harsh for a felony.

Three former Academy Sports distribution center workers have been sentenced to three years of probation for hiding guns in their clothing, then smuggling them out of the Twiggs County warehouse as they left work.

Vincent Allen, Harold Dinkins and Joshua Milner, all of Macon, each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal firearms in November.

Allen and Dinkins were sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Milner was sentenced Thursday.

A judge has ordered the men to pay $6,635 in restitution to Academy Sports.

Not surprising to me. We have a legal system not a justice system.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Probation is like shaking a finger at them and saying "don't do that again"
I doubt they will ever pay restitution unless it is garnished from their future paychecks at $20.00 per month, provided they can find work.
felony record will do nothing to stop them from committing another crime.

I still view it as lenient.

Hamilton County is coming under a huge fire now on the Heroin traffickers. Something like only 43% spend a day in a jail, the rest are given probation. Yet they have a huge county wide task force to combat it yet the courts are just blowing it off with plea deals for probation. I recently read it is so bad, the state is willing to look into the court's actions for not being on par with their desires to go after heroin dealers that inadvertently kill users.

What happened to the stolen firearms? Were they resold by the thieves?

Remember, Obama insisted these were non-violent types who shouldn't be in jail.
