Re: SC Officer Charged with Murder

11-1 on murder charge is what I understand....5 on Manslaughter..is what has been reported...Whizzed off IMO was a kind word..the reason for the difference is obvious...

Still haven't heard anything on the backgrounds of either of the participants.

This LE tactic has to be changed IMO...folks on this forum jumped all over me when I said the same thing about the shooting in Cleveland with the kid waving his gun around, don't remember his name, he was next to a pavilion and the police rolled up like the Calvary and shot him....I said they should of stayed back and assessed the situation then acted.... They have since changed their tactics.Thank God our Military doesn't use the same tactics..we'd all be in trouble..or speaking another language.

Oh BTW Wiki mentions that the figures are probably low. The source bignflnut posted looks to be of much higher quality and provides links to stories.

Really pathetic that there was a juror that somehow saw this as something other than murder. There was nothing to indicate this was anything other than a common knucklehead who the police knew the identity of. Let him run and add another warrant. Most police officers are dedicated servants while a few are stains on the uniform.

OK, reading through that, the important points that I spotted:

No sentencing promise other than prosecution agreeing to a "level 3 reduction" pertaining to accepting responsibility provided he doesn't contradict his guilty plea (ie I plead guilty because I was forced to...the video didn't show the whole story, etc).

The State of South Carolina agrees to drop the state charges.

He is pleading guilty to depriving Scott of his 4th Amendment rights against unreasonable and excessive use of force under color of law. The prosecutor is recommending that he be sentenced under 2nd Degree Murder guidelines.

That means he could get up to life in prison at the discretion of the US District Court Judge. A pre-sentence investigation report will be done.

I'd guess that he'll get the lightest sentence possible. The judge will attempt to satisfy - by way of compromise - both the "Black Community" and the law enforcement community. Good luck with that. Get out the popcorn and the TV remote :lol:

UPDATE: Ex cop sentenced today to 20 years

http://abcnews.go.com/US/cop-michael-sl ... d=51595376" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
U.S. District Judge David Norton ruled that Slager committed second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, when he shot and killed 50-year-old Scott in 2015. The second-degree murder ruling came with a recommended 19 to 24 year sentence.
Another one of Walter Scott's brothers, Anthony Scott, thanked Feiden Santana, the witness who filmed the shooting, for being "brave" enough to film what he saw.
