See, possession of a loaded weapon is a no no.
Yes, he was praised by the cops when he turned the gun in...
Chevilott is just two years shy of retirement after 23 years on the job. His supervisor was suspended for 30 days.
Chevilott’s superiors at the Department of Public Services found that he had violated department policies by possessing a weapon on work property.

"Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Adams to Mass Militia 10-11-1798

Hmm, I'd like to hear those who fired him explain that it would have been a better option for Chevilott to leave the gun where he found it, remove himself from the area, and just hope a young child didn't stumble across it next. Or, wait one, two or however many hours there at the scene until a police officer showed up to take control of the firearm. Yeah they'd have put Chevilott on time-and-a-half to babysit a gun.
Like others said if Mr. Chevilott's job is union-protected the city is going to eat an effluent sandwich on this matter before all is said and done.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!
