Looks like the off dusty officer instigated the situation and whoever he confronted was preparing to defend themselves from a raving drunk lunatic.
A Sandusky police officer was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday evening pending an investigation into an incident Saturday where he taunted a man who pulled a gun on him during on off-duty confrontation near Columbus Avenue, according to a police report.

Showalter is a jerk. Last seen him at a gas station while off duty busting the cubes of a young man carry a weapon openly and not on purpose, his jacket had hiked up a bit showing the firearm. The fella had his CCW and Showalter telling him its illegal to carry it in the store where alcohol is sold...he must've missed that last open carry law that allows weapons in such a area and open carry has been on the books for sometime.

He's probably still just upset that his parents named him Jody...
I kid.
I swear, it seems that Sandusky, Port Clinton, Norwalk, and Monroeville have the weirdest news stories. Between the drug related news, and all of the misconduct by law enforcement up that way, it never gets boring.
And for the record, I'm not bashing LE. Just seems that that whole area has its share of drama in regards to LE.

My parents named me Erin, and I'm a guy. If we were Irish I could understand it a little, but we're not. Being I was born in the 70's maybe I could chock it up to mom and dad were on good drugs, but again that's a no go. Dad was a straight laced cop. I guess it'll remain a mystery. Btw, I knew a guy when I was in the service who's name was Tammy.

I know guys with the name Aaron, but not Erin. Tammy would not be a good one.
Father of a guy I grew up with was named Bonnie. Yeah, I know, it wouldn't be too unusual in Scotland, but that family had been here several generations.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Hmm, only ever been in downtown Sandusky a couple times. On both occasions I spent some time at the bar in the story, Cabana Jack's. Seems like a nice enough place, but it only takes one really drunk drunk (yeah I phrased it like that on purpose) to spoil good times for a lot of other people.
