Hello everyone

Post by bogart34 »

I just got my CHL a week ago, and I figured that I should join the forums here. A little about myself:
Graduate of The Ohio State University, BS in Aerospace Engineering.
I wish I could have owned a pistol sooner, but I lived in college dorms for 4 years on a scholarship. Naturally I had to wait until I graduated to purchase one. I am and always have been a fan of the 1911-A1. Not exactly a weapon for concealment, but I might be able to make do in the car at least. I am open to suggestions for a pistol for concealed carry. I have already been eyeing a Smith and Wesson M&P .45, but I am willing to take some suggestions.
Keep calm and carry on.
1911 lover.

Hello and welcome. I'd say if you're considering carrying an M&P in .45 you may as well carry your 1911. It's only got 0.5" longer barrel and weighs in about 10oz more. (Comparing a standard M&P45 to a Springfield 1911-A1 "Range Officer")
IANAL, YMMV, other standard disclaimers, yada, yada, yada, etc, ad nauseum, in infinitum.

JustJack, I have the Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded. It has a longer barrel than the Range Officer. The reason I was interested in the M&P .45 is to try to keep a constant caliber for sake uniformity, and it is a much smaller pistol than the 1911. I have found that it is too large to comfortably sit down with in my car, and the barrel hits the seat, which pushes the pistol halfway out of the holster. I expect that something smaller would suit me well.
Keep calm and carry on.

Ahh..fair enough. Perhaps the M&P45c?

Welcome to the forums!

I carry a Sig 1911 RCS - the frame is Commander length, while the grip is Officer size. I quite enjoy the "carryability" of that. Thought I would mention since say you like the 1911 platform.

I was wrong in my initial intro: I have found a really nice IWB holster to cc my 1911A1. I am a happy camper.

Out of curiosity, which holster did you go with? I know that many swear by the Crossbreed Supertuck and similar competitor models from White Hat Holsters, Galco, Comp-Tac, etc.
