Re: HB 585: Kasich supported bill on firearms
Concerning the audience at the HB585 hearing, the majority were not readily identifiable as belonging to either side. There were a couple of other OFCC people there, and several others wearing T-shirts which the gun grabbers probably wouldn't touch (skulls, crossed rifles, etc.). No Demanding Moms (at least no one wearing their trademark red T-shirts), but one lady wore a pin inscribed with "Sandy Hook Promise" or something similar.
The hearing for HB228, at 4 pm, was a different story. Over a dozen of the Moms were there; however, they were probably disappointed. Substitute bills for both HB228 and HB253 were to be considered; we had to wait 10-15 minutes while some information about the substitutes was loaded into the server to which the committee computers were connected. When this was accomplished, Chairwoman Roegner took votes on the substitute bills (they both passed) and adjourned the meeting. There was no opportunity for testimony either pro or anti.
The new substitute bill, and a comparison of it to the previous substitute, can be found at http://www.ohiohouse.gov/committee/fede ... -relations" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; under the April 10 heading.

Thanks. Nice to see that we've now proposed a new enumerated CPZ while falling all over ourselves to give special rights to LEOs (such as myself). It will now be an M1 to openly carry on an amusement ride or an F4 to do so concealed. So when the carneys come to town and my daughter is just itching to ride on the kids merry go round that does about 4 RPM it'll be a crime to carry there.zeko wrote:The new substitute bill, and a comparison of it to the previous substitute, can be found at http://www.ohiohouse.gov/committee/fede ... -relations" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; under the April 10 heading

Wonder what an amusement ride is. Does riding in a horse drawn carriage at a festival count?djthomas wrote:Thanks. "Amusement ride" has the same meaning as in section 1711.50 of the Revised Code.schmieg wrote:Wonder what an amusement ride is.
"Amusement ride" means any mechanical, aquatic, or inflatable device, or combination of those devices that carries or conveys passengers on, along, around, over, or through a fixed or restricted course or within a defined area for the purpose of providing amusement, pleasure, or excitement. "Amusement ride" includes carnival rides, bungee jumping facilities, and fair rides, but does not include passenger tramways as defined in section 4169.01 of the Revised Code, manufactured rock climbing walls in climbing facilities regulated under Chapter 4175. of the Revised Code, or amusement rides operated solely at trade shows for a limited period of time. For purposes of this division, "trade show" means a place of exhibition not open to the general public where amusement ride manufacturers display, promote, operate, and sell amusement rides to prospective purchasers.

Here is a link that I used from OGO(Ohio Gun Owners) to send a message to my Rep to Stop, block and vote NO on HB585.

Is 585 really necessary if these arrests are already being made?Four Elida High School students are being heralded as heroes today for alerting the Allen County Sheriff’s Office that a former student told them to avoid going to school on Sept. 1 because he was going to “shoot it up.”
Their actions lead to the arrest of Tristan Ascura, 19, of Lima who was taken into custody at 1:53 a.m. Thursday, just over three hours after the threat was reported at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau discovered an AR-15 rifle and 500 rounds of 0.556 caliber ammunition in Ascura’s possession. Detective Ryan Ream said they also found a single clip loaded with ammunition, though it’s possible he had other clips not readily visible.

“Our office doesn’t waste any time going after these people and we’re never going to,” said Administrative Lt. Andre McConnahea, public information officer for the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. “We’re going to charge them every time.”
“They’ve (the sheriff’s office detective bureau) really become experts at tracking these things back,” McConnahea said. “In almost by any means threats are made, they’re become really good at checking the digital fingerprints and tracking them back to the individuals.”
Because the threat was made so late at night and the suspect was taken into custody so quickly, the Elida Schools administration wasn’t informed of the threat until Thursday morning, he said.

.556 caliber? Wonder if it's the sheriff's office or the reporter that has no clue.
