Dem gubantorial candidates positions on guns in Ohio

Post by M-Quigley »

This is what they are saying now, running to be nominated by the Democratic Party. Lets see how much of this survives into the summer when one of them will be running for the position in November.

The four Democratic candidates for Ohio’s governor seat met at Bowsher High School Wednesday night, attempting to distinguish themselves from one another in the final two months of the primary season.

State Sen. Joe Schiavoni (D., Boardman), former federal consumer watchdog Richard Cordray, former Cleveland congressman Dennis Kucinich, and former Ohio Supreme Court Justice William O’Neill debated a wide range of issues, including gun control, charter schools, and drug policy.
This comment is from the former Chief Justice who claimed to sleep with 50 women or something, when discussing sexual harrassment and assault claims made against other politicians and celebrities.
“If the Second Amendment gives you the right to own an AR-15, we have a right as citizens to know where it is,” Mr. O’Neill said, proposing a law that would require every AR-15 be registered with the local chief of police.
Here is the former NRA A rated candidate who defended Ohio's law against the citys when he was AG, and I think lost his reelection bid to F rated Dewine.
Mr. Cordray proposed closing varying loopholes that allowed guns into the hands of those he thinks should not have those kinds of weapons.

“We have to tighten our gun laws and keep guns out of the hands of criminals, the mentally ill, and domestic abusers,” he said.
I don't know if he mentioned (the article doesn't say) what these alleged "loopholes" are that he is referring to. We already have thousands of gun laws, some of which interfere with law abiding people but the criminal element ignores anyway.
Sen. Schiavoni focused his rebuttal time on securing schools, before pitching a national discussion on an assault weapons ban.

“We need to shore up our schools first and invest in services in our schools,” he said, which would include security staff and behavioral specialists in school buildings.
Mr. Kucinich said he was leading the field on this issue by calling for a straight assault weapons ban.

Cordray's comment is the least bad of those. Makes me suspect he's still pro-gun and just trying to say the bare minimum not to lose a Democrat primary.

I don't know about that - he just spent 4 years in DC as an Obama appointee. I have to believe he had any pro-gun tendencies surgically removed before he was appointed.
