I live in toledo. I have had a handgun stolen, never to be seen again. This was prior to the restaurant carry passing some years back. I reported it including a picture I had with the serial number. Long gone. I've been in their evidence room(s) and know quite a few officers. Things do disappear occassionly. Most of it gets destroyed or used by vice for stings.
They do auction off the impounded cars. I believe quarterly. Things go cheap but most vehicles wer pretty rough at the couple I've attended.
They also had a buyback in 2014 I believe. $50 vouchers for functional firearms. Got almost 180 firearms and 2 of them turned out to be stolen. Mostly inherited guns that were not wanted. The place was surrounded by dealers and people with wads of cash trying to get a deal.
