Ohio National Guard removes Gun Free Zones.

Post by Bruenor »

Well it's about time.. I'm guessing this is only for national guard members and not the general public that may be visiting a facility, but still a move in the right direction.

The men and women trusted by this nation to use heavy weaponry in battle to defend this nation may now defend themselves by carrying firearms at the state’s 72 Guard facilities. This policy shift follows a security review and update ordered by Gov. John Kasich in the wake of the July terrorist shooting of military personnel at a Navy Reserve center in Tennessee by a Kuwaiti-born gunman. One of the five killed was a Navy petty officer from Ohio; another was a Marine whose father is a central Ohioan.
Now that the word is out that National Guard personnel are carrying firearms, odds are better they won’t need to use them.

Chalk one up in the Governor's RKBA column.

It's a good move. A ways to go though...couple of Ky. NG armories are sometimes rented out for gun shows. Or at least they used to be, not sure the promoter who had those is still in business.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

That is only for full time AGR and after you take an additional 8 hour course with OSHP. And you can only carry the firearm and holster that you you put on the spreadsheet to sign up for the class. If you are involved in a shooting using anything other than what you gave them you are SOL.

Here's the official press release.

As Yogi notes, this is not a "blanket" allowance and is limited to a very specific subset of soldiers. If any M-Day guard soldiers/airmen are reading this, *DO NOT* carry at an armory.

Really?
Kasich gets credit for wasting more money and reviewing the matter for a while before recognizing the stupidity of this policy then ordering a this new fence sitting policy where some and not others can carry? Do we give JK credit everytime he arms one group while continuing to shut out another?

Should we eagerly await the next attack that wakes JK up to some stupid policy?
He hasn't listened to pro-RKBA folks / philosophy for how long and now this half-measure is somehow to his credit?

Soft bigotry of low expectations.

Sounds like a step in the right direction, but with TOO MANY restrictions re: who can & CANNOT carry.

(The following should NOT be taken as encouraging anyone to break any laws.)

I have to write-I have a lot of RESPECT and ADMIRATION for the Navy guy who violated:
1) Federal law
2) US Navy regulations

by carrying his privately owed, loaded handgun in the Recruitment Center in TN.
He had a weapon when he most needed it.
He got in a lot of trouble, initially, but was alive to see all that trouble GO AWAY. :D

Maybe there is a lesson there, I dunno...
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun... Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson, 1785.

Henry Kissinger said, "Military Men are just dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns in Foreign Policy" and has not denied this quote to this day.
