Yup, I know. The info above was supposedly from a call with the Secretary of State's office. The date makes sense though. Gov. signs on Friday the 19th, gets files with the Secretary of State on Monday the 22nd.

I'm procrastinating on a new revision to my book, so I'm kinda waiting to see the date show up. I'm contemplating adding new sections to this revision, so I'm not overly anxious to jump right in, especially since my back still hurts when I sit at my desk for a long time. Oh well. I work better under pressure sometimes anyway. My doctor is starting to drop subtle hints that I may not ever be able to work again, at least not in the way I'm used to. That really sucks, because disability is WAY less than what I used to make in salary. Maybe I should write more gun law books LOL!

Ohio Constitution

§ 2.16 Bills to be signed by governor; veto

If the governor approves an act, he shall sign it, it becomes law and he shall file it with the secretary of state.
R.C. 111.08 Custody of laws and documents.

The secretary of state shall have charge of and safely keep the laws and resolutions passed by the general assembly and such other papers and documents as are required to be deposited in his office.
The "powers that be" can futz around with the effective date all they want, but according to the Ohio Constitution and the Ohio Revised Code (and the calendar), if the Guber signed HB 234 on 12/19, then the effective date should be 3/19. (31 days in Dec. & Jan., and 28 in Feb.).

The law gets filed with the SOS for "custody", not "enactment". You'll notice that "it becomes law" occurs BEFORE "he shall file it with the SOS" in our constitution.

And if you do something that violates the present law, but not the new one, and are caught doing it on 3/20 if the SoS says the effective date is 3/23, you probably will be arrested and have to go to trial. You will probably win, at least on appeal, but it will cost you about $10,000 to go through that trial and appeal.

That's actually really good timing. Spring starts on 3/20.

This gives me time to do some spring cleaning in my gun safe to make room for all the 60-round magazines and 50 & 100 round drum magazines I plan on buying.

I've thought about getting some of those as I have two 40 rounders but would like to have the increased ones but... 1) Pricing sucks and 2) I've heard nothing but jams with 60 and 100 round. Sure, one looks like a bada** at the range when they load that up and put it in their AR....then one looks like a fool after the clear a jam every 10 rounds. Maybe quality has gotten better, but initial reviews of those were terrible.

And the other ones are? I love how some commented on I think Magpul's Facebook page and asked if God was making them now since it's hard to make something more indestructible than their current product.

Well there is some issue with feed lips cracking off on mags. I've seen two in the past two years but since they weren't mine I can't say how these mags were used. I haven't had any issues personally with any gen mag and have all versions. I keep several with out dust overs on them loaded with 28 rounds as a test to see if any deformation occurs or any other failure issue. So far no noticeable issue.
