The place to discuss legislation and politics in Ohio. Discussion isn't limited to firearm related political topics, but those will likely prevail. Keep it clean folks!

As with anything, you gotta watch out for "poison pill" amendments. Buckeye Tuck was one such pill way back. We took it because it was easier to fix a bad law than to get a great law from square one (incrementalism - it's not just for the left anymore).
This is how many laws are "tweaked" as time progresses.
This is also a very effective way to slowly disarm the populace with more and more firearms restrictions law passed.
The left points out...We don't want to take away your guns...just make some illegal that have no legitimate use. It's all downhill from there.

Thank you.
I don't know that one could say a particular part of the process is most adverse to HB 203. There are several places where this could get hung up. I talked with the committee chair's office last week regarding a 2nd hearing on the bill. No decision had been made yet when to have it. There MAY be one more committee meeting (Dec. 15) before the legislature Christmas break. The House calendar that week shows the House in session "if necessary". OFCC is watching the situation very closely and staying in contact with legislators.

I have one vacation day left and am saving it for a hearing if it is announced.

Any updates on a 2nd reading of the bill in the near future or is the Statehouse celebrating Christmas early this year?

Nothing concrete to report. There is still a possibility it could happen before the end of the year.

UPDATE: Representative Bolon's office is now reporting that the committee hearing has been canceled! ***NOTICE: DUE TO A LACK OF AVAILABLE HEARING ROOMS ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER, 15, COMMITTEE HAS BEEN CANCELLED*** That might be the fastest cancellation of an announced committee hearing ever!

They are not required to have any more hearings right? So could I read into this that the committe might actually be willing to vote this out of committe instead of letting it sit and rot?

Yes, only one hearing was required by House rules. It is a positive sign.

This would be a HUGE boost for Conceal Carry in Ohio, and a welcome one!

The Powers That Be are telling us that it
will be heard on Tuesday, January 12 at 3:00pm, but that official confirmation won't be until the week prior. So, I'd say plan on it but don't stake your life!

Thank you very much for the updates on this. This law is hard for me considering I carry so much, and eat out at sports bar type places more than I should. But it will be great not having to disarm every time I go to eat!
