The place to discuss legislation and politics in Ohio. Discussion isn't limited to firearm related political topics, but those will likely prevail. Keep it clean folks!

HB 203 is scheduled for 1st reading/sponsor testimony Thursday Nov. 5th by the House Public Safety and Homeland Security committee. The committee meets at 9:30 am in room 114 at the statehouse. Sponsor testimony is the only testimony that can be presented during this meeting. Even though we can't testify it would be good if people who can make it came to the hearing to show our support. If you can only make one of the committee meetings though you may want to wait till the 2nd reading on this because that's where we can give testimony and where we really want to show our support. No date set yet for 2nd reading.

Realistically it could be over a year before we see this thing come to fruition since our legislative terms are two years long and this one ends in 2010. With that being said, I'm really hopeful to see this go somewhere. Since this bill was introduced Tennessee has started allowing CCW in restaurants and Arizona has started allowing it in any liquor establishment (including bars). Virginia is getting a new governor in January and both candidates have said that they will sign a restaurant carry bill which has passed in the last two sessions but been vetoed by the current governor. That means that assuming HB 203 is still pending come next January/February there's a very good chance that Virginia will also change their law.
Granted we're hardly trendsetters since most other states already allow it, but having three other states making changes right now shows momentum. There's actually four other states if you count Georgia which changed in the last two years as well. It'll be nice to be able to say "Georgia changed their law two years ago and haven't had a single problem. Arizona and Tennessee just changed their law in 2009 and haven't seen any problems; Virginia is just allowing it now and they haven't seen any problems either."
Never ask if you can carry at a non-posted place, but always ask why you cannot at one that is!

A first hearing is required by House rules. A second hearing would be a very good sign because it's not required and would be an indication that the House leadership is allowing it to proceed. It would probably be a sign that Budish is concerned about the Democrats retaining control in the 2010 elections and cannot afford to alienate us.

It's been an uphill battle for a long time now, fightin' to keep our freedoms & to be able to enjoy freedom of your 2nd Amendment rights in this country, but to be able to go to a restaurant with your family and to enjoy the occasion and know that at least you have fighting chance to defend yourself & your family if a violent deadly situation would arise. All of this should not even be an issue but the gun haters of America/world make it so. I hope I can be available for this important hearing!
And thank you Ohioans for Concealed Carry & the other pro 2nd Amendment Rights Groups for all the hard work being done to keep us safe in America! I's like fight'n The Revolutionary War all over again. Maybe one day after all these uphill battles, one day we will finally reach the very top of the hill and then we or our children can say "We've won" !!!!

I'd like to make up for all my lurking by shaking a hand or two and showing face, how many people are planning on going?

I'm flexing time so that I may be present. I do not have an OFCC shirt, but wondered if we have any buttons that we could bring for our members to wear? I would be willing to purchase it!?!
