I had an appointment on May 14 with Butler Co SO for my 3rd renewal. They send you your new license in a SASE, so I figured if they mailed it out on the 45th day, it might take a couple days to get to me. It is day 51, still no license. The 30 day grace period on my now expired license ends today. Too late to call today, tomorrow is a holiday. Guess I'll shoot them an e-mail and try to find out what is up.
Last time I renewed with Montgomery County. Hadn't received my renewal after 45 days and contacted them, was told they had 45 "business days"- and didn't get the call to pick it up until day 60. Again, the 30 day grace period on my old CPL had expired, and I couldn't carry for a couple weeks.
I'm jealous of all the people in threads about other counties that walk out of their appointments with new CPL in hand or within a day or two. I don't understand the vast difference in service between counties. I know Sheriff Jones (Butler Co) is very pro 2nd Amendment, so I don't think he's telling his people to slow walk the applications.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I wonder if there is something coming up on your background check that makes them need / want to dig deeper and request records from a county that has to do a manual records search or something.
Oh, and it sounds like you know this, but Montgomery County is wrong, it is 45 calendar days - but unfortunately there's not much you can do about it except complain in any case.

Never had any negative contact with the law. Was a USAF Law Enforcement Specialist with a security clearance for 7 years, followed by 29 years as a Corrections Officer for the State of Ohio. No specific reason to hold up my application. I'm guessing it may be insufficient staff to handle the volume of work, bureaucratic inefficiency, or a combination of the two.

You could be right. But background vetting is a weird thing. With gun purchases, sometimes those with security clearances like yours get delayed for further review, or even denied. Seems to at times be the case with background checks for carry licenses too.JN01 wrote:Never had any negative contact with the law. Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Re: Butler County- not good
Finally got a response. I called to talk to someone Monday, had to leave a message. They called while I was at work the next day, lady told my wife that she had issued and sent out my CHL the day of my appointment. She went ahead and printed out a duplicate, and I picked it up Tuesday. So either the original got lost in the mail, or there was some other snafu. Anyway, 72 days later, I'm OK to carry again.
