Cleveland governmental entities are certainly slow to let go of their predilections for unlawful firearms regulations, aren't they?
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

What's the precise wording on that sign? It seems to be missing about half of the standard gunbuster language. Since this is owned by the Cleveland Metroparks system I know they have the proper signage to be posted when it's required. My point being I wonder if this is some sneaky, modified sign that attempts to warn of the perils of carrying in a liquor establishment.

No. They've got one of those "liquor establishment" signs too, but this is the kind of sign the Metroparks posts on their buildings. Sorry it's not a clearer picture, but I didn't want to be too conspicuous about taking it, because, after all, I was carrying.

Interesting - that's not the sign required to be posted on government facilities. Not that using that sign would make it any more or less legal, but still interesting.

Re: Edgewater Park (Cleveland Metroparks)
The wording is not critical, as per R.C. 2923.1212...
Is there a liquor license issued to that park?
The only issue here is that the facility is a city-owned park and cannot be posted....a sign that contains a statement in substantially the following form: "Unless otherwise authorized by law, pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code, no person shall knowingly possess, have under the person's control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance onto these premises."...

Re: Edgewater Park (Cleveland Metroparks)
There must be, because there are signs prohibiting bringing outside liquor into the park, and signs prohibiting people from taking alcohol out of the beach area into the rest of the park. The concession stand also has the standard sign prohibiting guns where liquor is sold.

They serve alcohol at the huge Thursday concerts and other events. The consumption area is roped off and those signs are at the borders of those areas.

Re: Edgewater Park (Cleveland Metroparks)
Just to be clear, ownership is a bit weird when it comes to Edgewater park. The park is owned by the city of Cleveland, however it is leased to the Cleveland Metroparks system, another governmental entity separate from the city and the county. The Metroparks handles day to day affairs.MyWifeSaidYes wrote:The only issue here is that the facility is a city-owned park and cannot be posted.
They probably set it up this way with you in mind. Cleveland will refer you to the Metroparks. The Metroparks will refer you to Cleveland.
As far as the liquor license goes, it seems to be held by the Metroparks and not some private, contracted out entity (which might be their excuse for posting).

We need some teeth in ORC 9.68. Florida did pretty well with theirs, individual council persons and such can be fined up to like $5000. Must be paid out of their own pocket. So far that's survived court challenge. Ohio should go a little better and specify shooting the city law director, solicitor, etc. in the face. Signs would be gone instantly.

I just fully believe that whoever green lights putting the signs up knows they are illegal, but doesn't care because they won't be punished.

Bottom line: What's the best way to let them know they can't do this?
