I can take my electric guitar & amp out back & play it to my heart's content. Or, go out back & shoot my lowly 22LR single shot beater rifle the same amount. Although that' s more expensive.
The difference is if 'bad' people are within earshot. Guitars aren't traditionally a valuable worth breaking in & stealing, firearms are a known in that category. And their earshot range is quite a bit farther. I choose not to advertise...YMMV ...

I try not to either. A few houses have "This property is protected by S&W" or "Our neighborhood does more than watch" etc. but I don't do anything like that. In my neck of the woods, probably 9 out of 10 people have at least one gun of some kind. The guy that happens to have the full autos knows he's a potential target for thieves and has taken many precautions. If a BG/guys are looking to steal guns they'd probably be safer stealing from a gun store in the city than his place. We also tend to try to watch out for each other if possible. One drawback to living out in the country is the potential emergency response time if you have to call 911, and I'm sure the BG's know this. Most of the few thefts that have occurred in my area aren't home break ins, but stuff stolen that is left outside overnight or while people weren't home, like lawn and garden or farm equipment. A long time back, someone had some anhydrous ammonia stolen. The number one crime here is probably poaching, which is why the ODNR officer is usually around somewhere more than the Sheriff's dept.

If a BG is reading this and wants my guns, they're buried in my back yard, between a squared area marked out by some little orange flags, about 3 inches down.
