I noticed they have a no concealed handguns sign. Is this a violation of 9.68?

If it's a city-owned park, yes.

Can you, or someone near the park, get a picture of the sign(s)?

The Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District (SAJRD) was created under R.C. 755.14.

That makes it a political subdivision of the state.

The Sylvania Recreation Corp. (SRC) was formed as an operating company specifically for the SAJRD, and the members of the corporation are ALL trustees of the SAJRD.

Since the trustees of the SAJRD actually run the SRC, which in turn manages the SAJRD ( ), I believe that makes the SRC a public entity.

Neither the SAJRD nor the SRC are permitted to post "No guns" signage on the bathrooms, shelter houses, parking areas or any open areas of the park.

The sign may be an oversight because I don't see any firearm regulations in their policy document, and it's pretty thorough:

Perhaps it was an intentional oversight? The thinking was, "Hmmmm...if nobody notices and nothing is ever said, this will be just the notification we need to give to prevent a mass shooting of parents and children"

Nah! NOBODY would be that dumb.

So, who's going to call them in the morning and inquire about the sign?

I'll try to swing by today to get a first hand look. The workers there are good people. I'll get more details.

I got a call back from Brian Hall. He said the sign is a left over from the alcohol days and is slated to be removed. He understands the whole "right to carry" thing and is also a gun owner. I kindly used the phrase "illegal signage" as the park is tax supported and he completely understood. It still has to be run through their legal gauntlet, so we'll see if this batter makes good biscuits.
