Here is the reply I got.

I TOO HAVE A CCW PERMIT. I BELIEVE YOU ARE CORRECT AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE THOSE SIGNS UP.WE POSTED THOSE SIGNS LAST YEAR WHEN WE HAD AN INCIDENT INVOLVING YOUNG MEN WITH BB GUNS. THEY SHOT UP IN THE AIR AND HIT A YOUNG GIRL IN THE HEAD CAUSING BLEEDING. WE THOUGHT POSTING THESE SIGNS WOULD DETER ANY MORE TROUBLE. I AM FAMILIAR WITH ORC 9.68 AND ORC 504.04 AND ORC 2923.126. OUR NEXT TOWNSHIP MEETING WILL BE APRIL 13 AT 7:00PM AND I WILL DISCUSS THIS WITH TERRY AND JEFF. YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO COME. IT IS AT THE COMMUNITY ROOM AT THE CENTER OF EAST LIBERTY. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO OUR ATTENTION. IF I DON'T SEE YOU THERE I WILL E-MAIL YOU AFTER THE MEETING AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT WE DECIDED.

THANK YOU

Excellent and prompt reply. That sounds like a crazy incident! A township can ban/restrict BB and pellet guns and the discharge of same so they could certainly go down that route.

When it comes to ORC 504.04 which prohibits a township from regulating the use of firearms I don't know if there's another statute or case law that provides that a township may still regulate the use of firearms on its own property.

"No discharging of firearms allowed."
"No unlicensed firearms allowed."
Or something like that might satisfy them?

What's an "unlicensed firearm"?

One that is not allowed to drive, since driving is a privilege.

It's a township.

They CANNOT make ANY regulations on firearms, hunting, trapping or fishing. (R.C. 504.04)

They CAN regulate BB guns.

I would ask why there is something for the trustees to discuss about taking down the sign since they didn't discuss putting it up.

I didn't find anything about it looking through their meeting minutes going back to the beginning of 2013.

Their web site does not list the address at which they will meet on the 13th. Do you have that?

I Plan on going to the meeting. Would love it if you could go MWSY. The location they gave is "the community room at the center of town" I am not sure exactly where that is. It is a small town however. I will drive down there tomorrow and see if I can find it, and post the address.

Apparently a Township Park, but still a Park!
They can regulate Discharging of "projectile" weapons in a Park.

lol...
I had to ask my brother that one time-
we had a discussion about borrowing a hand gun from each other, and the legality of it.
I could not let him "borrow" or use one of my guns because in Michigan it would be "unlicensed" and unregistered.

Now he, and my brother in-law could trade each other their daily carries and have no problems.
Michigan CPL holders both, and both guns are registered in Michigan.

As long as that "projectile" weapon is not a firearm.

Bows and arrows, slingshots, BB guns and even atlatls, just not firearms.
