Wooster has "No firearms" in parks law!!

Post by MyWifeSaidYes »

When I was mapping out my drive to Alliance from the Columbus area, I saw that I might be going through Wooster.

I think that's a funny name and decided to look up their laws. Yep. I found it.
Wooster, Ohio Codified Ordinances

539.03 FIREARMS, FIREWORKS, EXPLOSIVES, BOWS AND ARROWS.

(a) No person, except a law enforcement officer, shall carry firearms of any description, or air or gas gun, slingshot or missile-throwing device within any park or building, or discharge any firearm, firework, explosive, or air or gas gun in any park or building; provided that this section shall not apply to the discharge or possession of a firearm for show or memorial purposes where no projectile is discharged, and for which the Director of Administration has issued a permit.

(Ord. 2008-12. Passed 4-21-08.)
We need to give ORC 9.68 some teeth to fight these pesky little laws. Florida's preemption fines a community $5 million and fires or removes from office anyone who willfully violate their preemption law. The state attorneys have to prosecute or face sactions. It's amazing that all the municipalities in Florida actively worked to remove all conflicting ordinances without being bothered by the citizenry.

But we don't have that.

Who wants to contact the fine elected folks in Wooster?

My hands are getting full just trying to clean up my local municipalities.

You need a controversy like there was in Alliance. Maybe somebody will open carry to the fireworks tomorrow night. Maybe something with a shiny stainless steel slide that will show up in the twilight.

Would you believe I woke up wondering this very thing?

Perhaps printing off some of Werz's notices and taking them to the fireworks may be a good idea.

Oh, and Wooster does not rhyme with rooster, it's the "oo" in "look". If you ever heard Worchester, MA pronounced, it's the same.

Would a resident of that city be known as a 'Woos', then? :)

You know your history, JM!

From Ohio History Central
Wooster is the county seat of Wayne County, Ohio. John Beaver, William Henry, and Joseph Larwill established the town in 1808. Residents named the town in honor of David Wooster, a hero of the American Revolution. Wayne County's original seat of government was Madison, but county residents lobbied the Ohio legislature to move the county seat to Wooster. Wooster became the seat of government in 1811.

I grew up in that area and remember frequently eating at a restaurant (Green Leaf?) that had a large painting on the wall with a brief description to the effect of Colonel Wooster being around. It never mentioned him actually eating at that restaurant though....

Same vowel, but ends in a proper "r" sound. I'd forgotten about their dropping Rs

Except spelled correctly. The trick is pronouncing "Beall" and "Bever."

And I just noted that the spelling of the latter was "corrected" in the Ohio History Central article that you cited. Wikipedia gives the original (accurate) spelling.

Just addressed according to this as someone was arrested for OC.
NO, the individual was harassed and threatened, not arrested.

Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)
