Painesville Parks

Post by MyWifeSaidYes »

Image

To: All 7 members of Painesville council:
Dear Council members-

Some friends and I are planning a 'last picnic of the year' while we still have some 40-degree days left, but I saw a "No guns" sign at the entrance to the park.

As an open carrier, I want to follow the law, but I didn't think city parks could post "No guns" signage any more?

Could you please tell me what the current laws or ordinances are in Painesville regarding firearms in the parks?

Thank you!

The sign is missing one line.

15MPH seems kinda fast for a park doesn't it?

And it would have been cheaper to make the sign about the 4 :P things allowed ''Yes'', vs. the 2,491 things ''No'' LoL
Acquisitions thus far:

-Slingshot
-Butter knife
-Soda straw and peas
-Sharpened pencil
-Newspaper roll
--water balloon (*diversionary*)

Yeah, I'm that good

If it references drones, doesn't this make it a newer sign?

Good point. I would have to say it was put up recently.

Today's emails went from "we'll have our signage person look at it" to "we'll get our law director involved".

There may be some emergency legislation in their future. :)

That's good to hear, but here's something weird. In scanning their codified ordinances I couldn't find anything about parks. Most cities have a chapter on city parks (often in chapter nine) and sometimes they promulgate the rules right there. Painesville has nothing. The only thing I can find is in the administrative code where it established a parks and rec board.

On the plus side this means that the short-term fix may be as simple as telling a guy from the service department to go out with a strip of white tape and cover it up. The long-term fix would be getting a new sign made up, which may not be all bad considering this one looks like someone took a piece of metal and lettered it up using the sticky letters you can buy at Home Depot.

As an aside, it would be fun to wash my car in a city park or remove a city building but I see they've precluded both of those items.

Yep. It's only a parks department regulation, so it should be an easy fix.

When 228 takes affect, they may find out it would have been a "cheaper" fix than getting sued once the lawsuit is filed and an attorney's services are involved !

.......by the way, has there been any updates on this ?

It might be to your advantage to wait for 228 to become law , then give 'em a warning, "then" go after them.

But I'm thinking, "your" thinking the same thing, right, MWSY !

I sat on my hands for a couple months on this one. I had no intention of travelling to Painesville during the winter (which I would normally do if they ticked me off ;) )

I sent an email to the park department contacts asking if there were any CPZ signs at any/all of their parks. I made no reference to my earlier emails to council.

Let's see if a park person contacts me or if it's going to be a council person or law director.

I live in the area, so I can drive through the park and scout for signs this weekend if you have not heard back from them by then.

That would be wonderful, thanks! I don't anticipate a response until next week.

There are several parks listed on their website. Let me know which one(s) you check. If you can get pictures, PM me and I'll give you an email address to send them to.

I will try to hit them all.

Some are pretty small, might not have any signs at all. I read the rules on their website, but has anyone seen an actual sign, and in which park(s)?
