IMR RIFLE POWDER RECALL - CAN SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST

Post by AlanM »

Short article, a little frightening, lot numbers and what actions to take are provided.

Reloading Powder Recall
IMR Powder, a subsidiary of Hodgdon Powder Company, announced a product recall and safety warning for its IMR 4007SSC rifle cartridge reloading powder. The company says certain batches of the powder are unstable and can spontaneously combust.

“IMR has received reports that this particular powder in 1lb and 8lb containers may have become unstable due to possible rapid deterioration,” the company says. “Use of this product from these lot numbers shown on the enclosed label may result in spontaneous combustion, fire damage or possible serious injury.”

Manufacture of smokeless powder is by no means a new thing. Alan, (and everybody else) how do you think the maker let this happen? By the way good on you for sharing this info.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Chemists are constantly "improving" their products.
Sometimes it is to improve it, make it cheaper to produce, or to make it compliant with some new government regulation.
If the end user is combining it with other chemicals to produce a different product, and is not fully aware of the changes made to the base materials, you can end up with junk.
