keep in mind these are used in inlines @2000 fps

I wonder why Hornady would use the more expensive slug... of more expensive materials -- if the slug is sitting in a plastic sabot and the copper jacket never touches the barrel?
I like to swap brass... and I'm looking for .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, .380 Auto and 10mm. If you have some and would like to swap for something else, send me a note!

Maybe the idea is to avoid the boi-oi-oi-oing (ringing/rippling/shockwave sort of thing) effect on the overall shape of the projectile by using a thicker jacket--retain the correct geometry despite an explosion going on all around it. I read something about that recently but I don't recall whether it was specifically applicable to sabot rounds.

my best guess for hornaday using the heavy jacket bullets is they had some issues with the bullet shedding its jacket
upon impact with the higher velocities , but thats just a guess .

One thing does occur to me just about EVERY time I try to second guess the manufacturers...
*gulp* They know more than I do.
