I scored a second bucket 'o WW's. Whoever comes and casts can share in the bounty. I'll sort out the Zn and Fe as much as possible.

Reminder: Bring your personal protection equipment.
Gloves - Leather or heat resistant
Goggles or safety glasses
Breathing protection, or avoid the downwind side of the demo.
All particiants will assume their own risk.
If you have lead, bring it. Come either way. You are free to arrive any time after 6pm.
There is a Pizza place and a SubWay in the shopping center if you want to grab dinner to eat here.
Thank you.

Re: HUG meeting Schedule Thread
Had a productive evening of smelting WW and other scrap to make clean usable lead for casting.
Thanks to EP and BK for the 'furnaces'.
We all came away with more than we brought, either more experience or more lead.
Any ideas for future topics and locations?

BigBill,
Thanks for hosting the meeting and for sharing the wealth.
Who knew "recycling" could be so useful?

Re: HUG meeting Schedule Thread
MAY UPDATE:
I guess we haven't picked a date/time this month. Last month, we moved from the first Tuesday to the first Wednesday to accommodate schedule conflicts. Since kb8dnr and I switched our shooting night to Tuesdays, I'd like to keep it on Wednesday.
So, anyone up for meeting this Wednesday evening (that is May 5th, Alan )? How does 7:00-9:30 sound?
Do you want to go back to Panera's or do you want company again, Bill?
Anyone have a desired topic, or do you want to generally shoot the breeze?

Re: HUG meeting Schedule Thread
I just got around to putting away my bounty from the April smelting event. I came away with 20 lbs of soft lead from the tape weight stock and 90 lbs of wheel weight 'biscuits' that are ready for my electric Lee bottom pour pot.
I have a couple of 9mm molds and a .45 RN mold. I'm feeling an urge to convert the clean WW pucks into loadable pieces. Even if they are not yet sized and lubed, I won't need power to perform those functions if the TEOTWAWKI. I know I could melt and cast over a propane flame, but I don't think I want to wait that long.
I hate to be a fatalist, but the more I read in the news, the less sure I am about the future.
From what I have read, cast bullets will become harder with time, or if water quenched. How long does it take for cast bullets to reach max hardness?
++++++++++++++++++
I won't be able to host this month, Bob. Maybe in June.

Are you saying you want to cast on Wednesday evening? (It affects choice of venue.)BigBill wrote:I have a couple of 9mm molds and a .45 RN mold. I'm feeling an urge to convert the clean WW pucks into loadable pieces.
I read an interesting WSJ quote from a conservative talking about all the craziness going on:BigBill wrote:I hate to be a fatalist, but the more I read in the news, the less sure I am about the future.
'I'm optimistic, but it's sort of like being optimistic in 1939 and saying, I think we can beat the Germans.'
Approximately 3 weeks after casting they are about as hard as they are going to get.BigBill wrote:From what I have read, cast bullets will become harder with time, or if water quenched. How long does it take for cast bullets to reach max hardness?
What about it people? Do you want to go back to Polaris Panera?BigBill wrote:I won't be able to host this month, Bob. Maybe in June.

Wow -- I may actually get to make it to this one!
We'll see what changes between now and then... but for now, I think I'm in.

I like to swap brass... and I'm looking for .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, .380 Auto and 10mm. If you have some and would like to swap for something else, send me a note!
