Need help with my press

Post by MikeACP »

I just got around to setting up my Lee turret press. And I'm geting a headache. The problem. The index bar doesn't always turn the turret. sometimes it will only turn it partially. Sometimes it's right on. Looking at pics. of these there seems to be tao types. One plastic like mine. The other pics. Iv'e seen have a metal collar and nut on the index bar. Any suggestions?

I've been there. Nothing in the instructions covers this either. Only thing close is adjusting the timing. It seems like something isn't right. the black part on the ram. where the index bar goes through is round. Seems like there should be something to "catch" the bar to spn it.

Did you try the adjustable wrench on the index rod while in the down position, and turning the turret by hand to the proper position?

Yeah. tried that. once in position it would cycle a few of times. Then not turn the bar at all, or turn it partially. I lubed the turret. It worked for maybe 10 times or so. Then would start doing tjis again.

I can only suggest at this point tearing it down to check for any worn parts.

Worse case scenario, call Lee on Monday and ask for the tech.

I think that's where I;m at. I know it's got something to do with the bar not catching during the cycle. I'll play with that some more. Thanks Jake.

Make sure everything is well lubed. A little oil on everything that moves, even the turret helps a bunch and makes it nice and smooth. Yours looks dry in the pic. Lube the rod, the ram, the turret itself, and maybe even a bit on the block where the turret sits.

Your little plastic ratching piece could need changed. That would cause it not to rotate correctly. If it gets jammed up or you turn the turret by hand it can cause it to round out fairly easy.

I ran into a problem with mine where the clamp held onto the plastic piece too tight. It wouldn't let the racheting piece move up and down freely and it was therefor rounding out those plastic pieces right away. I used a bit of electrical tape on the clamp to space it out enough to allow proper opperation.

It was the little square ratchet peice. I took the clamp apart and changed it. {It came with it} I may have round it out some trying to time it by turning the turret. Thank you. Mike
