Wanted....Opinions on powders WSF/ WST vs. Win 231
I have feelers on this topic in another Forum, but I'm always looking for more educated opinions....
Currently using Win 231. Considering WSF and WST.
Will be used for 9mm 115gr FMJ and 125gr LCN and also .45 acp 230 gr FMJ and LRN.
I load light. Not looking for a hot load powder.
Not a S/D load either.

I still like WIN 231, it meters well for me. Get a pound of each and try some different loads in each of the calibers and see how you like them. If you've got access to a chronograph check for consistancy in velocity. You can get a chrono for $80 or so.

Winchester 231 is very versatile as pistol powders go. I've loaded it in:
-.25acp
-.32acp
-.380acp
-9mm
-.38 S&W
-.38 Spl.
-.38 super
-.357 magnum
-.40 S&W
-10mm
-.41 magnum
-.44 spl.
-.44 magnum
-.45acp
-.45 colt
For more "souped up" loads in some of those above I went with...oh wait, it's not one of your three choices, I better stifle myself Okay, it was Blue Dot, but only when trying to get more velocity out of the higher pressure things like 10mm and the magnums. WW231 would have been adequete though.
Tried WST, but at the time it didn't do anything better for me than 231. Can't recall ever using WSF.

Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

I've only used Win 231 since reloading. I've been happy with it, but it's all I know.
I'm hearing WSF is a lot cleaner.

Have used a bunch of WSF in 40 S&W for 180gr lead TC bullets (big powder sale a few years ago), but I didn't notice any difference in how clean it shot vs 231. Fouling has never been an issue in my Glock. My old 231 load was more efficient in that I used less to get the same velocity. All in all, I found WSF to be a fine powder for my general range loads.
Now that you brought up the topic for me, I am down to my last pound, but haven't needed to fire up the press for 40 S&W in over a year (progressives can make a bunch of rounds in short order). I will likely take a look at some of the AA offerings since they shoot well in my 38 spl . . . but I guess that I shouldn't talk about other powders.

Thanks for the input!
I'm likely going to pick up WSF and find out first hand.

Win 231 is a good choice, but have you tried Hodgdon HP38?
Just in case you find a good deal on HP38 over Win 231...
Actually, Hodgdon HP38 is the same thing as Win 231.Please limit responses to these three powders.
