Are you committed to plated? Simple lead will be approximately half the price.

Plated sure keeps the barrel cleaner. Not worried about lead poisoning as I shoot outdoors only. Is it possible to coat your own lead bullets with moly? The Precision Molys work really well.

Having Glocks, I don't shoot lead.

I haven't purchased an after market barrel either.

The price of lead sure is tempting me to do something, just not sure what. :?

Dan, if you want to start loading .40 S&W, a progressive is going to knock it out in a hurry.

The Lee Pro-1000 setup can be converted to whatever caliber you want. You order a new one and it will be setup from the factory to load one caliber. You order the proper stuff to convert it to another caliber. It's modular, there are two sizes of primers, two sizes of cases, and the caliber specific shellplate, and the appropriate dies.

IMHO I would get another turret plate to set up your new dies in and that way you don't have to reset them up if you change dies. A lot of people are upgrading their 3-hole turret presses to 4-hole and thus a lot of 3-hole turrets are on eBay going cheap if you look around.

New, the Pro-1000 comes with a decent powder measure that is compatible with a pretty much every common load.

IMHO the best way to convert it to a totally different caliber (like small vs large primers) is to buy a second shellplate carrier assembly already setup for the second caliber. That way you wind up with both the large and the small primer parts. With bot hsmall and large primer parts you can load anything pistol in a Pro-1000.

You can get a complete shellplate carrier with primer tray and parts, and the caliber shellplate of your choice for $35 plus shipping from a guy down near Cinci. Then all you need is the dies and a turret plate.

EP is right on the money with the previous post. I have reloaded just over a thousand 9mm in about three hours with it. I'm getting ready to switch over to 223 (as soon as I get some lead)

Don't expect to make that kind of time with .223, MM. Trust me, I know.

I'm not going as fast as that. I did 300 .38 specials this morning while the kids were still asleep, then I got them breakfast and opened some of Santa's finest for them and turned on Dora the Explorer in the playroom, converted over to .45 acp, and started on that. Being as how I have to keep an eye on the kids so they don't get into trouble or kill each other, I am only getting maybe 100 RPH right now -plus I am on OFCC... :) so loading another 1000 .45acp's might take me a while.

Keep your focus on one thing or another!!

It doesn't take much for me to get distracted while loading.

I keep the TV off.

Just me, my Pro 1000 and my thoughts......

Just me, my Pro 1000, and AccuRadio a flock of 80's.

Although, I do admit to sometimes listening to Textures.

Yea, I like Jim Brickman's music. So what?

All I ever hear is the tunes from the brass section, .223 flowing thru the corn cobb media. It only knows two songs rifght now. 223 Remington and the old classic, 9MM parabellum.

Same tunes over and over. Every once in while they have some uninvited guest over. Damn 380's get mixed in and try to destroy the harmony.

Man, I need to add some more tunes for them so they play out more.

.45's have a deeper resonance kind of like a cello compared to a violin. .44 magnums throw in a sort of kettledrum and cymbals.
Problem is when the 9mm para gets mixed in and missed on the first sort then I get to play "Fix the brass sandwich" emptying the tumbler.

Right now, I load .44 magnum, .357 magnum, .38 special, .45 acp, 9mm luger on my Pro-1000.

Was at Cabelas today and got 1000 .45 230 gr Rainiers plated for $110. If you fill out a CC app there, you get $15 off your first purchase. Bought some other gadjets also (shellholder set etc)

Still waiting on the info from Rainier. I think they must be shutdown for the Holidays.

Will keep you posted!
