Got Attacked By Pitbull

Was on my morning run a couple weeks ago....got attacked by a pit who broke her chain that was tied to a tree. I was able to fight off the dog until guy in car stopped and I jumped in Dukes of Hazard style. After this event I plan on OCing on my runs from now on.

I found a nice tactical holster - http://gunfightersinc.com/products/kenai-chest-holster/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Going to order the holster this week and carry my HK USP Compact in 40 cal.

Just want everyones 2 cents on whether this holster would cause me any issues in regards to open carry? Also, there is a school I sometimes run by. I run in the street or sidewalk. Are there any laws saying I can't OC when running/walking by school? I wouldn't be stepping foot on school grounds, just running past on the road or sidewalk.

Thanks for any info.

Assuming you have an Ohio carry license. If so, no legal problems with the federal 1,000 ft. restriction.

I see no issues with the holster as far as open carry. Better than a fanny pack. :wink:

Thanks...another guy said something similar except if you don't have the ccw license then you can be within 1000 ft as long as you are committing a crime. Do you agree?

As long as the gun is legally carried/transported.

The federal gun free school zone thing is mostly all show and no go anyway. It's something one could be charged with as a stand alone item, but that's not how federal prosecutors and the court operates. I'm friends with a recently retired assistant U.S. prosecutor, he will speak freely about how that part of our legal system operates, so my take on this isn't conjecture.

Technically, it's a federal offense, but your chances of being busted on it are very slim. Generally, the feds use this as an add-on to serious offenses in a school zone. Ohio licensees violate this almost every time they travel out of state unless they have a license for the state they are traveling in and there is no way to avoid it other than not carrying.

If you don't want to open-carry the gun but want to go with chest-carry, Hill People Gear's chest rigs are very well spoken of:

https://hillpeoplegear.com/Products" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With any of the proposed chest-borne holsters, access with the non-dominant hand is going to be tricky, particularly without sweeping oneself. If you don't see/hear the incoming fur-missile, this may be an issue...

Dogs trying to bite us was the main reason I started carrying.
Its not the dogs fault. Ive had some serious run ins with pit bulls, but every time its because their owners arent raising them right...not socializing, so when they do get around other human beings they dont know how to behave.
I finally had to print out ORC 955.28 for our property manager here to hand out to all the dog owners so they understand exactly what MY rights are when their dog comes charging at me, my wife and my grandkids.
I havent resorted to open carry yet. I dont want bad guys knowing Im armed and especially where my gun is exactly. But I have made my CC holsters so I can draw and get off a couple shots in just a bit over one second.

I really wish people would learn how to raise their dogs right. Theyre animals. They dont know whats right and wrong if their owners dont teach them .
