Zombies. I know they're coming. I saw it on teevee.

"Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home
Let me die in a pile of empty brass."
Amen

Re: Answer the Question "Why do you have a gun?"
My mom was the one who asked me that after I showed my newly minted CHL to her and my dad and asked to be sure it was alright that I start carrying when I visited them downstate.
When I reminded her how often I'm on the road by myself late at night, how many miles I drive to and from work or to visit them or other family, how lonely the road can be... When I reminded her that I live alone in a house that is fairly isolated from neighbors, and though the police are close, they're not right here, right now... When I reminded her that it is far better to be prepared than not...
She's not always comfortable with my decision, but she knows it's my choice.

I once told a man that was giving me the disapproving look when he noticed me OCing that it was the best tool I had lying around the house to [deleted--TR] liberals.
I have struggled with dyslexia my entire life. I know it's spelled wrong but thanks for pointing it out.

Re: Answer the Question "Why do you have a gun?"
It is a right so I never feel I must justify why I choose to exercise my rights.
That said, I primarily carry for the same reason I have a fire extinguisher and smoke alarms at home. I'm not looking for a fire, but I want to be prepared in case one breaks out. Its just being prudent.
There is also the element that a right not exercised is a right more easily lost.

Somewhat of a variation on this, "I carry for the same reasons I have health insurance, life insurance, homeowners insurance ... I hope and pray I never need it but if I ever do, I'm glad I got it."
Oh, and ...... um ......... Zombies .......

I had a girlfriend ask that question once and my answer was and will always be, because the bad guys have guns and I like a level playing field. She is now a x-girlfriend.

That one might get you visited from the men in white coats
I ask them why they have fire extinguishers.
