Open Carry Fail in Brooklyn, OH

Open Carry is carrying a firearm unconcealed in Ohio. OC does not require a concealed handgun license, but the practice requires intimate knowledge of the law since there are places and situations where OC is prohibited but carrying concealed would be permitted. OC is also likely to attract attention. This forum is for discussion of OC, not for debating the pro's and con's or coordinating any type of protest events.

Hello All,

Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but looks like someone was charged with "Inducing Panic" for an Open Carry in Brooklyn, OH. Link attached:

These are also the same guys that couldn't stop an angry, soon to be ex-husband from murdering his family at the Cracker Barrel Birthday party. He was armed with a double-barreled shotgun. The police were in the parking lot.

PS This incident is what caused me to get my CHL.

OFCC mailed every department in Ohio notifying them on the legality of Open Carry. That would be interesting evidence to introduce during discovery and request for production. After all, if the department was placed on notice and failed to train and supervise appropriately ....

Whoever mailed this department should reach out to the plaintiff attorney with copies of correspondance.

That mail to every department, only involving OFCC at the end of diligent, long-running, and tremendous efforts by others, was in an inappropriate form to be considered retainable material for open records purposes.

Sure, if I were a plaintiff's attorney I'd try to get my hands on it, but everyone should realize it's not the "notice" that some think it to be.
Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)

So why take a backhanded slap at OFCC? Seems rude.

Whether or not it met record retention criteria, it is still discoverable and admissible.

Thinking the mailer could have been me, and wanting to reach out to the plaintiff with this info I went back and searched. It looks as if I can't be of any help. Although Brooklyn WAS on my list, it was the list for the "open letter regarding new laws" sent out 8-11. I don't remember the open carry campaign at all and wonder if it was before my time here...

Any linky to the effort?

Wasn't Jeff Slack heavily involved in that campaign?

Now now, be nice to the keyboard/college walk commando. Maybe one day he'll see what his gun rights organization has done compared to all the rest. I'm sure he'll gladly fund a letter campaign.

I imagine this case is still at the very early stages of development?

Given how political subdivisions operate when it comes to being taken to court, yeah, they are nowhere close to leaving the "stall stall and stall some more" stage of their defensive strategy.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Will there be a group meeting at the court house when this does go to trial? May be good to show our support for him.
Just wondering out loud (online).

Necro thread. I may be mistaken but I believe all charges were dropped and this had become a civil issue. Anyone feel free to correct or update though...
