Kansas City MO - bans Open Carry

Open Carry is carrying a firearm unconcealed in Ohio. OC does not require a concealed handgun license, but the practice requires intimate knowledge of the law since there are places and situations where OC is prohibited but carrying concealed would be permitted. OC is also likely to attract attention. This forum is for discussion of OC, not for debating the pro's and con's or coordinating any type of protest events.

Kansas City MO - bans Open Carry

The open carry movement that went a little too far (among others) at different times this year is now causing negative effects in other areas of the country. The Mayor of Kansas City, MO has pushed for a ban on open carry in the city, and his reasoning has apparently resulted in a 9-0 vote to do just that.
Actions have had consequences.

Does Missouri have a statewide pre-emption law like Ohio's that would make KC's actions illegal or at least a moot point?
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

They were going to, but the governor vetoed it a week or so ago.
Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)

Ugh! This means that Missouri could be headed towards a "patchwork quilt" of gun laws that vary from city to city. That was the exact situation in Florida and why they passed statewide pre-emption many years ago.

The bill that the MO governor vetoed would have provided for statewide licensed open carry.

MO has always allowed municipalities to prohibit open carry. However, very few cities bothered to do so in the past. Now, with all the negative attention (especially in Texas) of idiots holding AR's and AK's in their hands while in Starbuck, Target, Home Depot, they have created a backlash.,

People tend to forget that the only way to keep our firearms rights in the long run is to maintain a clear, unmistakable, majority of voters. When the majority start thinking that these people are acting like [deleted--TR], well then we are losing ground.

Yep...thanks to the imbecilic open carriers that is going to be hard to battle.
"Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home
Let me die in a pile of empty brass."
Amen

Since moving to Springfield, MO, this issue has, obviously, been on my radar... statewide preemption is heading for a possible veto override vote beginning of next month. I have not yet read the full language, but Missouri ALSO has Amendment 5 (http://ballotpedia.org/Missouri_Right_t ... gust_2014) ) which could have some interesting effects...
