Michigan Open Carry Rally

Open Carry is carrying a firearm unconcealed in Ohio. OC does not require a concealed handgun license, but the practice requires intimate knowledge of the law since there are places and situations where OC is prohibited but carrying concealed would be permitted. OC is also likely to attract attention. This forum is for discussion of OC, not for debating the pro's and con's or coordinating any type of protest events.

Michigan Open Carry Rally

By Mark Lawrence

As an avid hunter and owner of multiple firearms, I'm compelled to communicate my continuing disappointment in the way that “Open Carry Day” has been carried out the last few years.

I would expect those people who attend “Open Carry Day” to uphold the highest level of firearm safety while at the Capitol and I am constantly disappointed at firearm safety practices of a good number of attendees.

I regularly witnessed firearms being carried in a manner that is unsafe given the environment - the most common being a rifle carried over the shoulder (where the carrier has no control let alone sight of the trigger) with the muzzle pointed straight up in the air.
The comment section is much better than the article...

I read the first nine words of his column and the BS flag flew right out of my pocket and onto the table in front of the computer monitor. He's a liar, Fudd, or both.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

You know I could sort of put 'Open Carry rally expert' on my resume by now, having been in many of them now. And I couldn't disagree with Mr. Lawrence more strongly. Really, the only ill-advised way to carry those long guns would be without the use of a sling. (In some states that would actually be illegal in and of itself.)

I'm sure the organizers of these events in Michigan are as savvy as the folks here who plan, run, and participate in them.
