Any counter-protest to Bloomberg 8/13 in Columbus?

Open Carry is carrying a firearm unconcealed in Ohio. OC does not require a concealed handgun license, but the practice requires intimate knowledge of the law since there are places and situations where OC is prohibited but carrying concealed would be permitted. OC is also likely to attract attention. This forum is for discussion of OC, not for debating the pro's and con's or coordinating any type of protest events.

Any counter-protest to Bloomberg 8/13 in Columbus?

7 open carriers showed up in Cincinnati, much to the anger and dismay of the tour group "leader".

Are there plans for people to counter-protest in Columbus - even if that just means showing up open carrying?

Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)

I think there are some plans for people to show up, based on the rumblings I have heard on other forums and yesterday at PITP.

I am disappointed to say that my work schedule will not allow me the luxury to attend. I started my turn at the on call rotation for my client this morning at 8am, and the expected response time is 5-10 minutes for me to be online and working the reported issue for the next 7 days. I basically stay home for a week every 2 months during the on call rotation.

Spoke with MWSY at PITP, and I am pretty sure he planned to attend. Didn't get a chance to see if Chuck was going to make it - those two are both pretty active in Columbus for this sort of thing.

I will be there in spirit, wishing I could be there in person. I had even planned my "attire" ahead of time - my Sig 1911 on my right hip, my mag carrier on the left, with my S&W MP-15 slung across my shoulder (and maybe my trusty Marlin 30-30 on the other shoulder).

I'll be there with a few friends, as long as the Good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise

And several friends in the NEO crowd is coming down too

Face book responses say 49 people are coming
Cut that in half and we should have a decent crowd
(The last time I said that was in January at the Statehouse and we ended up with thousands)

See you there!

We had 46.

They had...well, I'm not sure they had anybody to watch the event, although they did have about 20 locals taking part in the event.

And then there was the anti that threatened the lifes of all of us and was escorted from the park.

Were you asked if you preferred charges to be filed?

They told Carolyn she had to go to the station to press charges, but they gave her a CR number
I doubt she does it, though
She has a big heart and she actually felt sorry for the guy,,,,

That's a shame, because it's the only way 1) that these people will be exposed, and 2) that they will be held to account.

If one of "us" had made such a threat, you can be sure that the anti's would insist on prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

Carolyn has too soft of a heart IMHO.

Thanks for the update, Chuck.

I'm pretty sure that was his intention, to bait us into doing something regretful
And if we were the reckless blood thirsty morons they paint us as, it might have worked

Too bad, (for them in this instance) we were cool, calm, and collected

This is a copy of my write up on face book on it:

This guy and his wife, with FOUR LITTLE KIDS in the car, stopped to talk on their way into the park.
The lady was yelling at Neil, one of my friends.
When I went over to see what she was saying, she was going on, very loudly, about how she had lost a kid.
Neal sadly told her he had too, but not from guns, when the guy began SCREAMING some of the filthiest words imaginable, and told Neil, "I don't think you should be able to own a gun!"
Neal responded that he enjoyed being free, and the guy should join us and be free too. This drew a loud and hearty "F* you!" and the guy drove off to park.
He came back with a camera, taking all our pictures, and when Carolyn said "How you doing today?" he said he wanted to run us all down with his car

His wife was a participant for the Bloomberg crowd, reading names,
They drove all the way up here from North Carolina for that

Hope they make it home safely,,,,

It could be, or it could have been a genuine threat.

Either way, IMHO, it should be pursued fully. I wasn't there, so all I can do is move electrons around.

It does disadvantage us each time such reckless behavior, by either side, is not pursued.

<edited to add> After reading your description of the incident, it doesn't at all seem like the guy was baiting you, it seems like he was genuinely ticked off. As far as I'm concerned, unless and until he faces consequences for his words, he will eventually act upon his anger.

Thank you. Obviously, they were excited and emotional. First Amendment in action, both sides.
