yesterday OC and then not
I was open carrying yesterday, and helping my son move. we decided to go to frisches for lunch . I know frisches is a pro company and does not post its stores, but I felt compelled to cover the gun before going in. My thoughts were why kick a sleeping dog. On retrospect I am torn on my decision. I am starting to open carry more often but try to avoid putting ideas into heads that may harm the overall cause.

Nothing wrong with covering up when you don't feel comfortable. Carry on.

I'll often cover up when first going in and standing in line to order. Then I may (or may not) take off my cover garment when I am seated.

The great thing: it's your choice and you are free to make it. I can find no fault in a person CHOOSING to carry how THEY want to. Maybe one day more people well have that freedom and more!

I've OC'd at Frisch's in Urbana many times. Have never had an issue.

I don't care how people choose to lawfully [and safely] carry.
I care when they impugn other people's choices of lawful carry.

As a gun owner, and a carrier, open or concealed, that's a good way to think - and it's pretty much what I tell my students.
Also, as a gun owner, you're an ambassador and possibly a teacher - you can destroy myths and stereotypes OR you can make them more believable.
Yes, I do believe in open carry. An openly armed man is clear in his intentions. Concealed carriers are sneaks and skulkers and elitist, boot licking, political contribution making, running dog lackies of The Man. <wink> (thx grumpycoconut - OpenCarry.org)

And by covering up, you can avoid starting conversations, good or bad.
Even good conversations can screw with your schedule.
Last week, a good conversation in the Kroger's parking lot took up half an hour. I had the time to spend.
At lunch or dinner? Not always.
However, my choice to OC is never based on "Will it upset the sheep?"

Re: yesterday OC and then not
well in this case my worry was not about the sheep, but rather the sheep herder or rather the owner of the sheep lot. getting the patrons worrying would not bother me at all...getting a manager calling home office to discuss the issue may cause them to start rethinking their position...plus I had my wife my son and my mom with me. Didn't feel the need to get them involved in anything that may or may not have occurred. I fully support anyones right to do whatever is legal ( and sometimes things that are stupidly illegal) I do try to avoid causing issue for other people however ...if I can.MyWifeSaidYes wrote:And by covering up, you can avoid starting conversations, good or bad.

Re: yesterday OC and then not
I open carry in Sidney most of the time. But like you if I am out with others and/or don't have the time to spare to be a good ambassador I cover up.
I would personally love to spend another 30 replies educating you about the racist history of gun control, what an assault weapon is, the finer points of the law, or the varying lethality of different weapons. But I doubt you're interested. For some reason the statist side of this argument seems to think ignorance is strength. RookCastle

That's the great thing, we can choose to cover when we feel the need and when we don't feel the need it's OC time. Go with what makes you comfortable at any given time.
