Ohio Renaissance Festival

Post by rwcrist »

With the introduction of SB17 the Ohio Renaissance Festival should be good to go for CC. Has anyone been there to notice if it's signed as a CPZ? The last topic I found on this is from 2006.

From their website:

Please observe the village policies:
No pets. No outside food or beverage may be brought into festival. All weapons must be tied in a sheath at all times.

Last time I drove by, they had a prominently displayed gun buster sign. That was about two years ago.

I wonder if my thumb-break holster would count? :?

Hrumpf. So a sword, dagger, axe, mace, or bow would be fine, but no pistols. How 9th-century can you get?

I frequently see flintlock and percussion pistols there, but probably all unloaded. I know of one guy who did RenFaires as a pirate-sort of charcter and they made him remove the mainspring from his old flintlock blunderbuss so that it could not be fired, period.

Swords, daggers, and other bladed weapons have to be "peace-bonded" in a sheath or scabbard so that they cannot be drawn. they basically zip-tie or use wire to lock the blade in the scabbard.

Sounds kind of like gun show rules ... I almost wonder if their insurance carrier requires it - the last thing they want to do is pay out claims for morons showing off their latest score. "Hey Bob, check out this great sword I got" as he yanks it out and grazes three children standing behind him by accident.

In other news I went to the Chatham Apple Butter festival this weekend held at the local VFW post with no issues. I made out at least two other people carrying (and doing a pretty cruddy job at concealing if that was their intent).

I was there yesterday, but not carrying--none of my guns will fit in a sporran and no pockets on a kilt either. I didn't see any signs, although I wasn't really looking for any either.

I know, a whole year later. Thinking about going later this month. Anyone know if they're posted?

Just carry IWB, and tie a little ribbon around it. That's what the website says to do.

I've heard The Chieftains sing that song. Quite funny!

Hmmm, I wonder if a condom will suffice?

I went to the Renaissance Festival tonight with some friends, it's definitely not posted at the entrances.

Just don't be a ding dong and open carry and risk ruining it in the future for us concealed carriers.
