High School Football Game?
My first question is, are high school football stadiums included in school safety zones? secondly I work security in the parking lots at football games, can I carry my weapon. If the first question is yes then I guess my second question is void.

I'm pretty sure all school events, even if held on grounds that are not owned in any way by the school are considered part of the school "safety" zone.

Given the current state of Mansfield and its schools, you can almost bet there is some armed little thug somewhere.
Arlin Field is not in a great part of down.
By the way, my alma-mater, Lexington (Minutemen), will tear Ashland (Arrows) apart tonight for the Ohio Cardinal Conference football championship! I wish I could be there for it. I may watch is on www.wmfd.com. I dont know. Just had to give props to Lexington for making it this far. Lord knows when Kaple was coach, that wasnt happening.

I'm not looking at the O.R.C. right this minute, but I believe the law technically says you cannot carry at school activities (or on school property, etc) without the permission of the administration of the school. As you are working security in an area where you have already mentioned there are "armed thugs" likely to be around, you might very well be able to get the school's consent to be armed while providing protection for the students, faculty and guests at the game.
But as to the general question; it's definitely a school activity, and an unconstitutional felony for us at the moment.

He is HIGHLY unlikely to get the permission of Mansfield City Schools (MCS) to carry. However, if he is a security officer by contract to the MCS and he has a Armed Bearer card and is licensed as a Security Officer, I would think his contract and his credentials on file are his permission as the contract would state that he is armed.
I still keep an eye on what goes on in Mansfield and it sucks. Glad I dont live there anymore. My parents put my brothers and I from Mansfield City Schools to Lexington Local Schools when I was in mid 4th Grade.

FireEMSPolice and OntWarrier,
I gave up on Lexington when they got rid of their old, classic Minuteman sign and that funny looking cartoon troll!
Lived in Lexington for 5 years before moving. Went to Western Elementary, Jr. High and then High School (it was a 4 and then 5 building after they built the library, campus then, not whatever it is now (one giant building or some campus with a wall around it?) so there have been lots of changes.
I would have been Class of '74 there and was Class of '74 at the school we moved to.
That was the era when the Band was more important than the sports teams. David Wells directed the band. USMC DI's came in and inspected each band member and they could easily get replaced by a sub (they had one for every instrument and marched woodwinds as well as brass) if the DI downchecked you.

If the high school cross country team goes jogging down the highway through town, isn't that a "school activity"? Does that make the highway/town a "no carry zone"?SeanC wrote:The law says you can't carry at "school activities."
I think all these laws are unconstitutional. "...shall not be infringed." How much clearer could it be? Sadly, I don't have the resources (or the remaining lifetime) to be a test case. Most think a high school football game is a school activity. I think that the prohibition at school activities is unconstitutional and you can carry there anyway.
I don't want to be a test case - do you?

The more law-abiding people that have guns, the better off we are," Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said. "Because the bad guys always have guns, You look at these school shootings or church shootings, the ones that have been stopped, it was because someone there had a gun."

Lexington HS is one big building now. They added an athletic center to the food stand at the football field. It looks great. I never knew the "Minuteman" changed. I was in the class of 2001.Buckshot wrote:FireEMSPolice and OntWarrier,

That's my point. If there's no way for a person of ordinary intelligence to know what conduct is prohibited, the law in question is unconstitutional. Due process, I think - but I'm on the road away from my books. I have another posting about that subject on here where I cited the cases...If the high school cross country team goes jogging down the highway through town, isn't that a "school activity"? Does that make the highway/town a "no carry zone"?

Props to Lexington for their big turn around success this year! Due in large part to the player's dedication and hard work.....Oh and also partly because of their coaching staff led by B.J. Payne and all of his coaches who consist mostly of ex-grads/players from my alma mater, Massillon Washington High School...A lot of people in Massillon are pulling for ya Lex!FireEMSPolice wrote:Given the current state of Mansfield and its schools, you can almost bet there is some armed little thug somewhere.
