Business Across from school (fed safety zone)
I have a business that is 412 feet from a school. I know Ohio law has an exception to the school safety zone for picking up children. I do have a CCW. Is there a problem with the federal safety zone? Also, is it permissible for my to have a long arm such as a pump action shotgun (because nothing says conversation over, go away quite like that sound ). I have my impressions but I want to hear different perspectives.
God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can
and the Wisdom to know the difference.
Carrying a gun is a right, not a crime.
Gun control is racist.

and the Wisdom to know the difference.
Carrying a gun is a right, not a crime.

There is an exception to the Federal GFSZA if you have a license from the state the school is located in:
I have heard (and am not sure whether or not to agree with) some people say that since the Ohio license only applies to handguns that it only gives an exception for handguns. Take that for what it is worth regarding your long gun.
However, there is also an exception for private property:
As to transporting the long gun onto that private property legally:
so you and your handgun are fine.[18 U.S.C. § 922(q)(2)(A)] does not apply to the possession of a firearm—
...
(ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;

So, you are again OK as long as your business is on private property not part of school grounds.[18 U.S.C. § 922(q)(2)(A)] does not apply to the possession of a firearm—

Hope this helps.[18 U.S.C. § 922(q)(2)(A)] does not apply to the possession of a firearm—

(iii) that is—
(I) not loaded; and
(II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle;

Re: Business Across from school (fed safety zone)
Thanks, that is very helpful. It is possible to have them as long as I keep a few simple rules. I am thinking of getting a .410 or 20 gauge loaded with birdshot for powerful short range business and not likely to reach out beyond the property or intended target.

I'd be inclined to use something like #4 buckshot rather than bird shot, FWIW.
