Can They Do This?

Post by toddbike »

This sign was seen at the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati. Suppose one makes an error and enters the premises carrying a weapon. Can they legally confiscate and destroy the weapon?

At first glance, this appears to be a 9.68 violation since it is Cincinnati Park Board property.

Oh brother. Who's up for an open carry walk around the building, about eleventy eight times?

When was this sign posted? Is it recent or from a while ago?

This was seen on this Christmas eve, December 24, 2016, so it is recent.

That sign appears to be attached to a window via a suction cup. Could it just be a posting for the building? In which case it would be proper.

As for the confiscation and destroying part, I don't think so. I don't think park boards have that authority. Due process and all that.

The "Krohn Conservatory" does appear to be mostly a building!

In that case, my previous comment is probably not pertinent. I was thinking it was an open air park. I forgot that the conservatory was a building and was thinking of the Cincy Nature Center, which is probably private property.

There are some outside displays, and the sign does say "premises". Plus that part about confiscation and destruction.
