I bought one on MWSY's advise and they work great.

They pick up everything pretty well, EXCEPT when you FORGET IT AND LEAVE IT AT HOME ON THE TABLE and realize you need it.

I've learned the hard way.

is nice, but has a lot of "noise" on the 2 meter ham band, so it's either the dashcam or the 2 mtr rig

I think he's got it running all day long.......so you need to watch what you say around him.

Yeah. All day...when I don't leave it at home.

I start it when I put it on (I wear it on a lanyard around my neck [yes, it's a break-away lanyard]), then stop the recording when I get home.

If nothing interesting happened, I delete the days recording.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

I use Cop Recorder II on my phone. Whenever I carry, I start it running when I walk out the door.

If you don't mind a couple of questions: Is this an audio only recorder, or video+audio? If video+audio, can it be run in audio-only mode? What phone model are you using, and what's the battery life like with it recording?

Cop Recorder II is audio only.

I've run it on both a Samsung Galaxy 4g and my current Nexus 5. I've had it run for hours without putting too much of a dent in the battery.

It's actually unsupported now, but can still be downloaded. It formerly allowed upload of audio files to a web site, but I think that's no longer supported.

It's worked very well for me in actual situations.

There is an app on Android called.

It picks up audio from across the room at least on my Samsung s7. Give that a try.

Set up an account and set up numbers to call on your speed dial on your cell phone.

The first number is the phone number for free conference calling. Your phone may be different but on my iPhone the first number is 712-432-3006.

Now for every number after that you would enter a ;

So the first number is the phone number to get into their system followed by a ; then the conference code then a ; then your host code ; then the recording code of 5*

My speed dialing set up is like this: 712-432-3006;XXXXXX;XXXX;5*

Caution: My friend had some problems setting up the speed dial but was able to call tech support at http://www.freeconferencecalling.com/ and get some help and can now record her conversations.

Why is this better than using a small DVR? I'm glad you asked that.

Let's say a crooked LEO arrests you on trumped-up charges. You record the encounter. The first thing the LEO is going to do after your arrested is take everything out of your pockets. The DVR will be turned off.

When you're taken to jail; all of your possessions will be taken to the property room. If you are lucky enough to get out on bail your possessions will be returned to you. If your think your DVR is going to be returned to you then you aren't the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.

I have worn my bluetooth whenever I feel the need to record any encounters or conversations and it works really well. The worst that can happen is that my iPhone is smashed or disappears but the recording is still available.

My friend told me that setting it up was a PITA but once she got the help she needed from tech support it works great.
