Is there a public accessible data base where the names of CCL holders can be found by the general public?

Not a legal one at least :)
If I remember correctly, when Ohio first passed the CHL law members of the "news media" could go to the sheriffs office and get lists. And for a while there the Plain dealer (and others) was publishing names. I think when the buckeye tuck was removed this provision was changed.

Why? For criminals to use and find out where to steal guns?

HB 64 last year removed even journalist's access to CHL data because "journalists" kept printing that info even when copying that data wasn't allowed by law.

R.C. 2923.129(B) now states that CHL records are NOT public records and "No person shall release or otherwise disseminate records that are confidential under this division unless required to do so pursuant to a court order."

I would love to have even zip codes from that database. Ages and genders would be nice, too.

Demographics to help plan where to build shooting ranges, etc.

Uhm,no. It's the et cetera that concerns me.

But have his weapons to hand:
He knows not when he may need a spear,
Or what menace meet on the road.

Yeah, you're undoubtedly right. But it sure would be nice to know potential customer concentrations by geography.

The Attorney General's reports will tell you CHLs by county - but not zip code. That is likely the best info you will get on demographics.

And even the county info is not 'good data' because of the ability to apply and renew in adjacent counties.

Personally, I like the public not having access to that data.

OK, ok, ok! <insert whatever smiley here to show I'm not angry> I completely concede the point that public availability of any part of this data could and would be used inappropriately.

Even using home zipcode-level data of CHL holders to assist in determining the location of the newest indoor range and LGS near a high concentration of CHL holders is nefarious in that it might result in capitalistic wealth-transfer transactions and induce some of us to part with a few benjamins from time to time.
I get it.

Doesn't stop me from wistfully longing for even zipcode-level data...
Your objections are quite valid, MWSY, Tru-Heathen & Gramps.

Don't get me wrong.

Can you imagine how much a group like OFCC, who depends on donations of like-minded individuals, could benefit from having access to a mailing list of half a million Ohio CHL holders?
