Re: Lucas county sheriffs making up their own rules
If the Ohio AG's office doesn't provide a FAQ anymore then either they shouldn't display it or they should link to the current ed of the Laws Manual from the AG's site.

Not the same thing. The link you posted is the concealed carry book that one is suppose to read and state that they read it upon signing the application.cashman966 wrote:Here is a link to the current one on the AG site. It is a PDF download.

What Lucas County is posting is a short 3 page FAQ. Granted the FAQ doesn't have any obvious flaws and doesn't really deal with the issues at hand.
I'll work on a long email tonight showing their inaccuracies and referencing the ORC in it. This may take a while. LOL

Ignorant or Stupid, I'm not sure which is worse. If someone were stupid, at least they'd have an excuse for all the dumb things they say.

That's all wrong, as well as everything under the section "Renewal Competency Training Requirements" except for the question & answer about "do I need to read the CCW handbook?"My initial required competency training is over six (6) years
old. What are the training requirements for renewal?
If you wish to renew your CCW license, you must take a
competency course and pass the competency test.
What are the requirements of the Renewal Competency
Course?
The renewal competency certification must follow the guidelines
set forth in ORC 2923.125(G)(2)(a) and (b).
See Renewal Competency Training Requirements, below.
2923.125(F)(1)
There's nothing there about a renewal competency, just a certification that the applicant has re-read the AG's Concealed Carry Laws Manual.A licensee who wishes to renew a concealed handgun license issued under this section shall do so not earlier than ninety days before the expiration date of the license or at any time after the expiration date of the license by filing with the sheriff of the county in which the applicant resides or with the sheriff of an adjacent county an application for renewal of the license obtained pursuant to division (D) of this section, a certification by the applicant that, subsequent to the issuance of the license, the applicant has reread the pamphlet prepared by the Ohio peace officer training commission pursuant to section 109.731 of the Revised Code that reviews firearms, dispute resolution, and use of deadly force matters, and a nonrefundable license renewal fee in an amount determined pursuant to division (F)(4) of this section unless the fee is waived.

Re: Lucas county sheriffs making up their own rules
I wrote the AG's office to ask about the new "laws pamphlet" and also asked about the different Sheriff offices giving different advice. Here is the reply
"With respect to your questions on a standard between sheriff’s office’s, the concealed carry law rests solely on the shoulders of the sheriffs. If you are unpleased with how the process is being handled, you may wish to speak with those specific office’s."
Looks like the AG office will be little help

Ok I seriously need some help. For those who have previously checked the lucas county sheriffs website take a look now. In my opinion it's even worse.

Looks like I may be writing again. I think I'll just design their webpage for them or refer them to another county that has one with excellent information. Anyone have a few really good ones that cover what Lucas country is trying to cover?

Haha, I just posted that on another past after seeing theirs. I thoguht the replacement fee was in the ORC at $15? HCSO is only charging $5 according to that.Naticarry wrote:Hamilton County's is fairly good http://www.hcso.org/how-to-apply-for-a-ccw-license/JediSkipdogg wrote:LOL....corrsk wrote:Ok I seriously need some help. Wish our county law enforcement wouldn't call it "CCW," though.Naticarry wrote:Hamilton County's is fairly good http://www.hcso.org/how-to-apply-for-a-ccw-license/JediSkipdogg wrote:LOL....corrsk wrote:Ok I seriously need some help. Hard to change 8 years of bad language. I still hear people say "Valid concealed carry permit" on the radio when reading from the LEADS screen. It was changed 2 years ago and it's not that hard to read.147Doc wrote:Wish our county law enforcement wouldn't call it "CCW," though.

CCW was a common LEO term long before 2004!JediSkipdogg wrote:Hard to change 8 years of bad language. Well, that's what the crime is called, so it makes sense.Cruiser wrote:CCW was a common LEO term long before 2004!JediSkipdogg wrote:Hard to change 8 years of bad language.
