I would be prepared for any scenario. They could change procedures again.

Ohio has no reciprocity with Indiana, but I think I read somewhere that they have an indirect clause that allows hoosiers (us Indiananins) to carry their. Can you clarify? I may have broken the law coming back home through Dayton if I'm wrong.

Indiana licensees cannot carry in Ohio under an Indiana license. This MAY change in the future if current legislation passes, but, right now, it's in the Senate committee system with no hearings set and probably nothing will happen until after the election, if then. You could get a Florida or Utah license and carry here under that, but not with just Indiana.

Indiana will acknowledge any state license. Ohio WILL NOT acknowledge Indiana's.

The key with Indiana is you must carry as the license says. Our Ohio license says Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Handgun. Therefore you can only carry a handgun and it must remain concealed.

From my limited understanding of which states Ohio honors, they have a training program requirement. States like Indiana or Pennsylvania only have background check and fees needed to get your permit.

Hey, guys, new here, but had my ccw for awhile. Going to FL in June for a wedding and would prefer to carry straight through. My question is does anyone have recent experience getting a non resident permit from either PA or FL? Just have to cover GA, though any extras would be nice. Looks like both can be done through the mail inexpensively, although I read something that made me think PA may not do it through mail anymore. Any incite? Thanks in advance!

I recently got my PA license. Unfortunately, you can no longer apply through the mail, you must apply in person. Also unfortunately, some Sheriffs do not issue to non-residents, and still others require that your two references from the application be PA or even county residents. So, you have to pick your county carefully, and I would recommend calling before making the trip just to be sure nothing has changed.

Now for the good news: There are three counties close to the OH/PA border that are non-resident friendly based on my personal experience and recent reports from others. Those are Crawford County (Meadville), Erie County and Butler County. I went to Crawford County and the process couldn't have been easier. They have the application on their website in a fill-able PDF, all you need to do is fill it out, print it, take it, $20, your Ohio DL, your Ohio CHL and your smiling face to the sheriff's office where they will photo copy your DL & CHL, take your application & money, take your photo and in two weeks or so your PA license will arrive in the mail.

A word of caution about the application: Some counties (Butler included, but not Crawford), require the application to be on both sides of a single piece of paper rather than two separate pieces of paper.

Hope this helps - good luck and enjoy the trip to FL!

Another point is that Florida sometimes takes as long as three months to process your application, so you may already be too late to go that route.

You can keep your loaded gun in your car while driving through Georgia. If you want to carry out of your vehicle in GA, you will need a PA or FL license as already noted.

Thanks, guys! Great info! I was kinda figuring I'd be too late for Florida, but I'll make some calls on PA, it's probably be worth the drive. If not, I think our route takes us through GA only briefly, so I can always take care of business before the line and not stop. Thanks, again, looking forward to being part of the forum.

See my post above. You CAN keep your loaded firearm in your car while traveling through GA. You just can't carry it outside the vehicle without a recognized license. No need to stop at the state line to take care of business.

Or take turns with the wife taking care of business, so one of you's always in the car.
