PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
Awhile back I mentioned that I would report back about how a board meeting went regarding faculty being allowed to carry, well a lot has happened.....here's the facebook group I have set up because of the boards wanting to keep their heads in the sand........here's a link to it. And we made front page in the local paper today , (Massillon Independent)!

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
I just want to wish your group the best of luck. It seems to me the school boards that have been against it, stay against it. Those that are for it, allow it. Both sides stand firm on their side regardless of input from faculty, parents, and police.
At the beginning of this school year I think it was Covington schools that were trying to allow faculty to carry. It seemed very pro carry from both the parents and the police. It never happened.
The school district in the city I work for brought up the issue after Sandy Hook. The school had meeting with the superintendent, their insurance company, the police chief from both cities that the district mainly covers, and a few other big heads. They talked about how to prevent a Sandy Hook down here. Every time they asked for my retired Chief's input, his answer was..."Arm the staff." For those that know my former Chief, that's not a surprising answer. The insurance company was totally against it and said they'd raise the rates or drop the school if they did that. Ultimately, they did not approve carry for anyone.
I think the only solution to the matter is to get a school board elected that will allow carry. Short of that, most likely never going to happen.

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
Lake Local District had a meeting this morning, it got quite contentious. Apparently my name was brought up as one who had taken the FASTER program and is supporting it. I am, but was not encouraging the board to jump into it unilaterally. I just shared my experience to one of the board members so there was more information than just a representative from BFA. My letter was misrepresented as full support and encouragement from our teachers at my school which it was NOT, just my own experience.

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
Well, Jedi, the board is getting beat up, reputation wise, and there is so many people fed up with them and they have been trying to pass a levy for quite a few years now and people are now refusing to vote for the levy over this issue. And there is talk about organizing to find others to run for board positions who favor this issue....myself being one of them. Heck, just the thought of me getting elected to the board would probably scare the heebee geebee's out of 'em!
There's so many things that we're working on in regards to this, it's not funny....we've made it clear that we're not going away, so.......
Just thought what we're doing might be of interest to some on here.

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
That's great, stay firm and kick those idiots out of office. My worry will be with a school board like you mention, if they do finally cave and allow it, they will immediately do a levy the following year and say it's pass the levy or we cut allowing teachers to carry. School boards are generally the most useless organizations around.Unfortunately not enough speak out with the minor issues so they get away with quite a bit.3FULLMAGS+1 wrote:Well, Jedi, the board is getting beat up, reputation wise, and there is so many people fed up with them and they have been trying to pass a levy for quite a few years now and people are now refusing to vote for the levy over this issue. As a Fairless graduate, I fully support teachers being able to carry in the school district.

Jedi...the thought of them back pedaling on this issue if the levy fails, has crossed our minds in the group, but if they did that we have enough people now that would pile into a board meeting and get down their throughts, it wouldn't even be funny especially when it really isn't going to cost a dime to implement!
and we made the news too...

Awesome work and keep up the push. I do truly wish your group the best of luck and wish it was a much easier battle.3FULLMAGS+1 wrote:Jedi...the thought of them back pedaling on this issue if the levy fails, has crossed our minds in the group, but if they did that we have enough people now that would pile into a board meeting and get down their throughts, it wouldn't even be funny especially when it really isn't going to cost a dime to implement!

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
FYI, I was at the meeting and didn't take the reading of the letter that way, but since they didn't provide much detail beyond that it was from another school's staff who had been through the FASTER program, I could see it being seen that way.

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
I know this thread was getting old but an update on the first meeting went something like over twenty attendees, not many, but no anti's showed which surprised us all and Only one board member showed, which didn't surprise us either.
The next meeting is on the 26th of this month at the Civic Center in Navarre and we are advertizing it much better this time and the facebook group has grown too! And the two local Chiefs of Police that spoke out against this are being asked to attend to defend(?) their position! Guess we'll see if they have the spine to show up!

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
3 mags-I was in this Rodeo back in 2013 here at OFCC about mentioning to my fellow Bus Drivers about C&C and keeping a firearm in my car on school property, ridiculed by some to the point I just vacated the site and stopped posting asking and just enjoying the interaction with like minded people, hopefully you have not had that type response,as of this past weekend after sitting in the lounge this morning there are currently 9 certified CCW Bus Drivers who freely talk about it plus we added 3 more this pass weekend,I commend you for bringing this topic to the fore front with Your school administration ,hopefully with the legislation coming back to the headlines again we will be allowed to here in Ohio to keep Our firearms in Our Vehicles locked up as we work very soon, as well in Hopes that one day we will be able to protect the lives of the students we are responsible for as well as Our own as Drivers and School Employees. All the Best in your attempt to Contribute to the cause..

Re: PUSHING fAIRLESS SCHOOLS TO ALLOW CARRY
The school districts have the power (R.C. 2923.122) to authorize firearms possession of any kind within their school safety zones. That includes the land, the buildings and the buses.
We CAN fight for this at the state level, but it should be easier togang up on influence your local school board.
