Please understand that Rob Portman, who addressed us last year, would very much like to attend this year. Unfortunately, I did not get the date to his scheduler in time to save our date. Even so, the campaign tried to move other things to accomodate the PiP, but there were just too many moving parts. The problem with volunteers is, you get what you pay for, and that's about what I managed to deliver on this one. My bad.

Rob is a as genuine as he seems. If he disagrees with you on a matter he says so. He doesn't pull a Sharrod Brown and give a canned response or sidestep an issue. Shame people that have not met him will not see him there..

We did spend about 2-3 weeks trying to get the Governor's office to attend the picnic, and the answer to everyone's question is that they wanted to. Both his office staff and his campaign (there is an imaginary wall between them) wanted him to attend.

However, he had a prior commitment that is at another location in the State that is so far away he couldn't realistically commute between the two events.

OK now, see...
That's a reasonable explanation.

I'll buy that.

I won't say that I'm not still curious as to who/what the other obligation IS, but at least I know that there is one.

If one's interest is truly piqued, the governor's schedule is only an Ohio Public Records Law request away...

Is there an instant online method of doing that available; which would let me look up that information right now?

No idea about on-line availability. They will have to answer a written request.

So then, as a practical matter, there is no way to find out before the weekend anyway.

That's a rhetorical question, no answer needed. Basically you simply confirmed what I already knew.

The only reason I even voiced the question is because I figured someone might know and could post the answer. But it's not really a big deal anyway. Just a curiosity.

An instant -- anonymous -- means of checking out a politician's schedule in advance? Personally, I am glad it is a little more difficult to obtain that info. Otherwise, it is opening the door to disgruntled assassins, which would generally be a bad thing.

Last Minute Request...

If anyone can bring a FM radio with reasonable sized speakers on it we're going to setup one or two of these in each of the auxiliary pavilions on either end of the center pavillion. The PA system will be re-broadcasting it's audio on a FM frequency at the low end of the dial (88-89mhz) yet to be determined. I have ONE of these and will bring it and likely set it up in the check-in booth.

This will allow anyone in the other pavilions to hear the speakers and not have to cram into the middle area where seating is limited. At the moment I won't be surprised if we see 200 people in the crowd this year.

If you have headphones or a cell phone that can tune FM and you want to hang out in a comfortable lawn chair in the shade, feel free to bring it along and we'll share what frequency the microphone is on.

I could do so, but do you know if the alternate pavilions have 110v power available?

Regardless, I will bring a radio with speakers loud enough to be heard in a pavilion.
