Failure is a tool, use it wisely.

Post by ApexShootingTactics »

The fundamentals are key. Grip, sights and trigger are the core fundamentals when it comes to combat pistol shooting. The concept of "Advanced Training", is difficult for me to believe in This goes for training in any skill. Rather I have come to believe that, "Advanced Training" is really just advanced application of the fundamentals. Being a dynamic or combative shooter you need to learn how to perform safe and proficient weapons handling skills and the fundamentals of marksmanship in any situation.
My job as an instructor is to make sure the student is ready for the next step. Our classes use the crawl, walk, run mentality. Not every student makes it beyond crawling, some learn to walk and some will run faster each time they work with us. Training needs to be about student performance, proficiency and confidence. In this video the person running the range is NOT an instructor, they are simply running the range. This officer is unsure of her weapon, equipment and abilities. Her fundamentals are poor and not ready to do something like shooting the handgun from the prone. Her "instructor" failed. Her "instructor" set her up for failure and damaged her confidence.
Failure is a great teacher, but failure needs to be used properly. Pushing students to become faster and more accurate, pushing limits to failure and then teaching them how to overcome that failure so they can become better. That is what I strive to do with every client.

Where's the "Like" button?! :)

I honestly find more value in failing in class than I do succeeding.
