Yes - SAF is doing one as well. I have not heard any real status about it here in Ohio, other than a few groups have taken it.

On the surface, it appears to be a fairly intensive course with some decent pre-requisite training credentials already in place to attend.

I emailed Sean Thornton at NRA HQ
What are the requirements to renew instructor ratings?
I hear:
"No requirements"
"One class per year"
One class every two years"


His reply
That's an easy one. We don't have any requirements currently. It's a long story, but that will change in the, sort of, near future. Currently though, there are no requirements.

CCW holder/Instructor
NRA Basic pistol instructor
Range Safety Officer
Personal Protection inside and outside the home instructor
Advanced pistol instructor
Defensive pistol instructor
