Where to shoot?

Post by QuakQuakBang »

Hey all, I just moved to OH and I'm looking for a good place to shoot indoor, members only preferably. I live in Portage county and went to ProArmament in Cuyoga Falls and was very much put off. Their range was filthy and staff very un-customer oriented.

I just bought a new XDs 9mm from National Armory in Streetsboro, one of they guys there said he belongs to a members only range in Akron called Zeppelin Rifle Club but they're not taking anymore members.

Can anyone help me out, I need a place to break in the new gun.

Thanks,
Jake

Do a web search for A&A in Garretsville. Not the nicest place, but it is a place to shoot. Also there's a DNR Class A range at Grand River Wildlife Area, but the shortest range they have is 25yds.

This site lets you search by state and even zip code. I am not certain how up to date the listings are, but it is a start:

I'm a big fan of the ODNR ranges. They are outdoors, you can shoot steel cased ammo, and it's cheap. $24 a year IIRC for a yearly pass.

Since he mentioned an XDs, he would have to shoot at 25yards if he went to Grand River.

I shoot indoor mostly at The Marksman in Akron/Barberton. It's nothing special, but the staff is friendly enough. I have also been put off by Pro Armament. Their staff motto must be the same as HK's - "Because you suck and we hate you"

In the winter, an informal bowling pin league gets going on Tuesday nights at the marksman. Lots of fun.

I have also recently been put off by Pro-Armament. I gave them chances after chances. A few Sundays ago I walk in with a friend an hour before closing to shoot for a half an hour. Before I even open my mouth, "the range is closed we will be open tomorrow bla bla bla." The range was not full, I looked behind the counter and we were only shooting for a half an hour and they were open for another hour. It was more that attitude that has been presented to me their time and time again. They will no longer be getting my buisness and I will tell others not to support them as well. Shame as it's a close venue.
