Becoming an OPOTA Firearms Instructor?

Post by ChrisK »

Hey gang.

Quick question. I"ve been an NRA instructor in several disciplines and an RSO for 20 years now.

I was wondering if any OPOTA Firearms Instructors could chime in and let me know the answer to the following questions.

1) Do you have to be a LEO to be an OPOTA Firearms Instructor?
2) If not, what exactly are the qualifications to take the OPOTA firearms instructor's courses?
3) Do you find being an OPOTA firearms instructor to be valuable and worthwhile extrinsically or intrinsically?
4) Should I bother?

Thanks in advance.

1. As far as I know, we are all Current or former LEOs.
2. N/A
3. I have found the general public mostly sees/hears NRA. I usually have to explain what an OPOTA is versus NRA instructors. No real "advantage" other than knowing that I train your police officers. Having said that, the training is only as good as the student willing to practice regularly.
4. If you are already an NRA firearms instructor, no.

Sorry I took so long to answer, I just thought there might be someone on here with more credentials than I.

I appreciate it.

It's about as I expected. Just thought I'd double check.

Thanks.
