with the new law change for rifles, ALL straight walls are good to go, so i picked the 45 Raptor... this can be used in AR10's or savage or remingtons ...
what is a 45 Raptor?.... 250gr 45cal FTX at 2600fps that about 300fps faster then a 450 bushmaster
a 450 bushmaster is a easy 400y deer gun, and with the extra 300 fps the raptor is still doing 1000fps at 600
The spot i hunt, i can sit on a hill and overlook 400y of fields and hit anything in it..
it uses the same dies and reload data as a S&W 460 mag except the case is rimless, "basically, cut the neck off a 30-06 and stuff a 45 in it."
i had a spare 700 "rem-age" in 260 that i wasn't using so i ordered a Mcgowan "rem-age" raptor barrel
BTW, this is the WORST site ever to post image to...
this is the raptor VS 260-45rap-3006
the barrel
painted
installed
done...

That is a creative way to do some deer hunting, and a cartridge I was unfamiliar with.. Zeroed at 200 yards, what is your drop at 400-500-600? How's the recoil?

Very capable it seems.. so, is it dialed in with a steel plate?

Re: MY new 600y deer gun...
I'm still doing load testing with it, then when I'm done I'll be running it out on steel plates up to 600 to confirm on my drops.
I don't guess shots so anything then I'm going to end up shooting with this will be latest and dialed that on
But if you 0 to 200, it drops 13 inches at 300.
It's got a decent recoil, I probably say a bit more than a 20 gauge slug Maybe
You figure a 20 gauge FTX slug is the same bullet only moving at about 2,000 ft per second or less, and this is doing 2600

I like the revised rules .
As always the wind is the part of the equation that is tough to measure and quantify.
How exactly are they defining "straight walled" ??

They removed the restrictions from the old 2014 list.Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers: New this year! All straight-walled cartridge calibers from a minimum of .357 to a maximum of .50. Shotguns and straight-walled cartridge rifles can be loaded with no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined.

Ok so that does not tell me if a belted magnum is ok ....or exactly how much case taper is allowed, etc.Bruenor wrote:http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/hunting-tra ... -equipment" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;willbird wrote: How exactly are they defining "straight walled" ??They removed the restrictions from the old 2014 list.Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers: New this year! The 375 winchester has a .400 long neck then tapers back to a dia .02 bigger at the rim than the beck dia . 375 win and 38/55 were on the list before so probably fine now.
