Glock is protesting the Army's choice of Sig Sauer

Post by Whirlwind06 »

I think one of the requirements was that it have a manual safety, last Glock I saw didn't have one from the factory.
Firearms manufacturer Glock has filed a protest with the government over the Army's award of a new pistol contract to competitor Sig Sauer, according to documents filed with the Government Accountability Office on Friday.

The move puts the Army's plans to begin testing its XM17 Modular Handgun System on hold until the complaint is resolved.

Glock has made an external safety pistol for military trials before:

It wouldn't have been a runner up if it didn't meet the most basic of requirements.

These military equipment-testing boards may be some of THE slowest moving, money wasting federal government organizations of all times. And that's an easy distinction to achieve.

Carmen, that's just this go-round. They've been "working" to replace the Beretta M9 off and on since the mid 1990s. Truth be told the Beretta has had (solvable) issues but overall gives pretty good service.

MAybe so...I fired the Beretta many years ago...when I first picked it up I thought it was pretty nice.....until I pulled the trigger.....I had time for a little nap before it went bang.....

Thread drift a bit, hope you don't mind....that same Beretta , after I used it at the range was used in 2 murders and a suicide. All people that I new very well...

Sorry for the drift...

Yikes! Sorry to read that.

The early 92/M9 would sometimes have a locking block crack, from using the hotter 9mm ammo made for MP-5 full autos. Beretta fixed that. The government bought one huge batch of crappy aftermarket magazines, causing failures to feed/function. Not Beretta's fault. The open top slide attracts lots of dirt and dust compared to other handguns. A proper holster prevents much of that.

I honestly think the military small arms testing boards justify their cushy, safer-than-combat jobs by doing these never ending trials.

When it comes to the military, choosing the "best" weapons in terms of durability and function is only one of several considerations. Politics and economics are also factors. This is where it pays for weapons manufacturers to be buddies with the decision-makers in government.

Yep..Like when they came out with the M-14 Auto......3 round burst and your sights are in the clouds....and then the wood fore arm grip..you could fry eggs on it....then they wised up and put a ventilated polymer one on....WHAT WERE THEY DOING WHEN THEY RUN TESTS ON THESE GUNS ?

The specifications of the contract required that the pistol can be field stripped without first pulling the trigger.

Glock's proposal was therefore dead on arrival.

I'd be curious to know how much the army will pay per unit for the Sig.

Wow, that's almost as bad as that old TV show about a possessed gun. :(

A whole lot less than I paid for my P320.

FDE sub-compact small grip with Compact slide, and magazine & X-Grip adapter. Also have black sub-compact & Compact grips in small in addition to the black Compact Medium grip that it wore when I bought it.
