22LR - Field and Stream
Even with 22lr starting to appear more and more i was surprised when I went into field and stream and they had hundreds of bricks at normal (by many standards) prices. I bought some federal automatch for 17.99 a brick. They had a good variety as well.

That sounds like what it should be.

Federal Automatch is generally 325 per brick.FormerNavy wrote:Javelin Man wrote:That sounds like what it should be.

Ahhh, there's the catch. I'm looking forward to a brick for the $17 price.

Me too - and I've not been impressed with Federal Automatch anyway - typical 5-shot group would have at least one shot drop out of the group. Thought it was going to be better quality stuff than typical bulk pack stuff, but it really isn't from what I can tell. Give me Blazer 40gr LRN, either bulk pack or 500 round bricks all day over the Federal Automatch.Javelin Man wrote:Ahhh, there's the catch. I'm looking forward to a brick for the $17 price.

The automatch does surprisingly well in my gsg522. One of the few bulk rounds that cycles it reliably with reasonable accuracy.

Re: 22LR - Field and Stream
I know someone who right after Thanksgiving got Federal Champion 22lr for $23 for 525 rds from someplace. Seems like a good price, don't know much about this particular load. Bullets are jacketed. He acted like he scored a big deal, maybe he did, I don't know. The ironic thing is, he wasn't looking for 22 ammo at the time because he doesn't even own a 22. It was just the fact that he saw 22 ammo for sale that wasn't scalpers prices. He is not planning on scalping it either. I suggested it was a good excuse to get a 22 firearm, but he doesn't want to because he doesn't want to shoot them yet, as he doesn't know if the 22 ammo shortage is really over or not.

$23 for a 525 pack of Federal Champion isn't bad, and the ammo isn't bad for bulk ammo as far as that goes. Sounds like the jacketed hollow point stuff, I think the lead round nose is a bit better, but a decent price since it is under 5 cents/round.

Re: 22LR - Field and Stream
$17.99 for auto-match is pretty darn good. It's been running in the $19-24 range. While it's not the greatest ammo, I have a bunch of it in my stash and it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. My Ruger MK pistols shoot it just fine as long as I keep up on my once a year cleaning of them. That reminds me, they're all due for a scrubb'n.
It'll be a great day if and when .22LR drops back down into the $.03-4 cents a round range. Lower would even be better.
