The S&W semiautomatics of that era are sort of underappreciated, I think. Now having said that, a friendly word of advice: The early S&W .40 caliber pistols (model 4006, etc.) were notoriously inaccurate. Seemingly they were in such a hurry to introduce their new, proprietary cartridge to the market, they didn't get the rifling rate of the barrels right. I saw bench rested 12" groups at 25 yards, and I'm being kind by "forgetting about" flyers that made the groups worse!

You have any particular plans for the G40? I have owned its "uncle", the model 20, for many years. It is my carry gun when traveling to places that have bigger than human predators to worry about. 10mm is definitely a caliber at its best if you can handload your own ammo.

And do you find the smallest grip to be smaller or larger or the same as a Gen 3 grip?
